Went to pick up bike a 2002 rsv with 30000 on the clock fitted with akra can I knew the speedo didn't work but when I got there on idle the oil light stayed on but as soon as the throttle moves it went out is this a common thing or is there a bigger problem ?

Mine used to do that, start it & the oil light stayed on then as soon as you revved it went out. After I changed the oil it stopped doing it :dunno

When this happened to me a few years ago it was a faulty oil pressure switch. The plastic casing on them is prone to failing. Whip the rubber boot off it and check to see if its full of oil. Run the engine and watch the switch for signs of leakage. It's a cheap fix and can be done quickly and without having to drain the oil. Use Loctite 243 on the threads when refitting.

That said, it could be something completely different. You really need to find out what sort of pressure you are getting before attempting any 'big' fixes on it. Check this thread for more info:-
Oil pressure light comes on in tick over & off with revs?

Having re-read your initial post I assume you are looking at a potential purchase here?. If so I'd say, and it's just my opinion, walk away - it could be a money pit waiting to happen. Too risky to drop cash on something that could be an easy sensor fix for a few quid and 20 minutes work or something that could mean a new oil pump or even worse a replacement engine. Andirsv here has had a similar issue recently and ended up having to fit a new engine.

Your call though fella!!.
