Morning All,

Firstly, apologies for what might be a repeated post. I have done some research on here and read my owners manual.

Ive had my Gen 1 T for abt 4 mths now and have just done a bit of a service. Plugs (x4), air filter and oil. Oil filter was a k&n which was replaced by the previous owner in Oct 2013, so i left it in. I dropped the oil to be prudent and because I thought prev chap had over filled it.

Someone had and the airbox was half full of oil. Cleaned it all out and put it back together. I drained oil off removing both the oil tank bolt and rear drain screw.

The manual said oil capacity was 3.7Litre (without filter) but I read that the oil coolers hold a little. So i put in 3.5 Litres, with a view to adding a little more.

I rang my local main dealer who said that I should check the level when the engine was hot and running (?).

Ive run it up, rode it 5 miles and checked the level with engine running and immediately on switching engine off, straight up and level.

It was above the max line! After 5 mins the level drops to the max line.

Have I overfilled it??

Thank you

With the bike FULLY warmed up (10 miles+) and running, and with the bike being held upright (not on sidestand, but paddock stand is ok)
The oil level should be no higher than the max level.
As soon as you shut the motor off, the oil level will fall in the sight glass.
With the engine off, over a few hours the level in the sight glass will continue to fall away completely as the oil flows past the filter screen in the botton of the oiltank, and back into the sump.
So yes, I'd say you've overfilled it a bit.
Just get come clean plastic tube, and 'suck' a little bit out. (DO NOT do this while the engine is hot...just in case :drool)

Thank you very much indeed for the info, I'll fetch a bit out now.
