Guys need a little help or understanding. :confused
I was checking the ape over to see if it was still restricted and found oil in the bottom of the airbox near the air filter. Do these rotax engines have an engine breather either on top of the rocker cover or at the crank case? :dunno
Obviousley the suck of the engine is pulling oil through from somewhere and i wondered if it was from a breather pipe?

If so could I block of the hole in the airbox and put a little piper cross style filter on the breather pipe to stop the engine from sucking oil out of the engine :dunno

Cheers for any help you can give me.
:thumbup

P.S All restrictions have been removed :nana :doug

"stop the engine from sucking oil out of the engine" ????? mate thats impossible. An engine cannot suck itself dry, the only ways it could use excess oil would be from a serious oil leak, burning it in the combustion process caused by worn piston rings or valve stem seals (and if this were the case she'd be smokin like a train) or a blown head gasket could cause the oil to mix with the water, but on these engines thats an extremely remote possibility. the oil in yer airbox is almost certainly the result of someone over filling the oil tank slightly, causing the excess pressure to force the oil into the airbox via the crankcase breather. Just clean it out, check the oil level using the proper procedure and you're good to go :thumbup

Thanks guys just panic for a sec. Done a search and like you say someone has filled the tank up a little too much.

Twintorque what i was thinking was if the engine was a vacuum, when running under load it was sucking oil from a breather tube (this can happen on a few car engines) and depositing it in the airbox, if bypassed it would solve the problem.

Just ignore me am a noob :biggrin

Thank you for a quick response. :thumbup

No worries matey, glad its all fine. You should never really have any major mechanical issues with these ol' Rotax motors, they're strong as an ox. :thumbup

Most likely it is an overfilled oil tank at some point, the oil can stay there forever if the filter isn't checked, theoretically of course.

Another more unlikely cause is very worn cylinders/piston rings resulting in excessive blow-by. This ends with higher than normal crankcase pressure and vaporized oil exiting out the top. Clogging the catalyst, smoke at start-up, poor performance, yada-yada-yada........I know--Shaddap Chris!!

My first V2 vas a Suzuki SV it had oil in the air filter housing so does the RSV.
Not much but a little - If the bike lives there is some oil in air filter housing.
If it is totally dry then she had died....

has the bike been on its side at all? My airbox had oil in it after i found the bike laying on the garage floor. Rear tire was flat, bike sat up and fell over and mate told me the oil was caused by the bike being on its side

Nearly every case of oil in the airbox is as a result of overfilling the oil tank with oil. Do a search on the correct method to check the oil level

Cheers LEGS and Darenc, bike has been over filled with oil which is good news, pheeew. :D

Hi midex
You have probably already done it ,but just worth mentioning is the drain tube with stopper in at base of airbox, this collects the surplus oil and needs draining periodically,
sandy v2
