was just gonna checkup on my dealers servicejob. Checked the airfilter, and there was a small puddle of black oil where the filter sits.

can anybody tell me whats wrong and where this oil could come from?

No mods had been done regarding derestriction.

as I suspected the filter had not been replaced for a while.

A small quantity of oil in the air filter housing is usually a sign of an engine that's been overfilled with oil. It's not a major issue and unless it's been well overfilled and shouldn't cause any harm. Normal service interval for replacement of the air filter element is 24,000 miles with a clean every 6,000 miles so unless your bike has done lots of miles, replacement might not have been due.

Some oil residue in the housing is normal, these engines crankcases appear to breath quite heavily and the crank case breather directly vents in to the air box, hence the build up of oil in the air box.

As ColinPP states make sure your oil level isn't too high or it will flood your air box with the excess oil.
