Hello all. I'm new to this forum. I have just bought a mint 2004 Tuono with 6000 miles on the clock. It has a standard exhaust and the suspension has neverbeen messed with. I lifted the tank and peered inside the airbox to see the state of the filter. It was black which shows it's probably the original. The lower end of it was also covered in dirty looking engine oil (quite runny too).

Any ideas as to why this is. I have now ordered a K&N for it.

Thanks, Roy.

its been overfilled with oil mate there will be a thread on oil changes and correct levels but i think thats what it is matey hope this helps

Yep what Lee said, nowt to worry about just make sure oil level is right it should be checked after a 10 minuite blast not just ticking over and wants to be about half way up the sight glass.....

Super. I'll check the level tomorrow when it's light. I think it's about 3/4 up. Any other tips with the bike? I had a TL1000s before and various cbr1000's a bandit 12, zzr1100 and lots of other small stuff. Never owned an italian bike so it's all new.

Thankyou all for your help.

my advice is to just try and be proactive with the bike mate, if you're lifting the tank to check air filter for example, have a good look at everything else whilst in there - ht leads, butterfly screws (ive had a loose one!) ... and just make sure you buy bits for it as and when needed. doing research is always a good idea too, you get a good feel for the areas that you always need to keep an eye on ... like mentioned already, battery terminals, starter solenoid connections, keep it on trickle ...
then you just gotta enjoy it :D

Funny enough I checked them before even reading this and they were loose, hahaha.
Got a mate posting my Optimate out to me too.

Viper can in post along with K&N and Iridium Nippon Denso plugs.

After a 20 mile thrash the oil was over the max limit. Took half pint out and after a run nothing was in the window. Put quarter pint back in and aftera good blast it was sitting mid point between max and min.

Thanks people.
