Just about to change oil and filter on my 02plate Mille, I have oil and I'm after the opinion as to where and what oil filter I should use, I've previously just bought whatever was cheapest on eBay before for my other bike but I feel maybe I should use something that's a bit more made for the bike, any info appreciated

halfords now sell an oil filter to fit our bikes .... champion or hiflo is the make I think

I always stick to oem kit...after all the engine was meant to run on it but that's not to say there aren't better out there.
Oil 15w50 Agip as recommended and I've found this has the least oil consumption.
As for filter, you need to have a look down next to the oil reservoir to see which filter housing you have as there was a revamped version released which is longer than the original and for a while that was all you could find as aprilia were trying to encourage people to fit these instead of the originals.
I'm not sure if the longer filter was to help oil flow or increase filtration but you will be able to spot the top hat which has two m6 bolts holding it on on. Best measure it for comparison,

Cheers Dave

If it's a long filter, then no probs...yer pays yer money and takes yer chances...

but

if it's a shortie....I'd deffo be going with an OE rotax filter to make sure the non return valve was of suitable quality ( the long ones don't have said valve)

Where the best, best as in cheapest place to get one?

as I said ...halfords ....filter is exactly the same as oe .... short type ..... whether people want to believe it or not .... aprilia do not use the best oil filter they can get .... its down to cost ....change it when you should and that's all you need to worry about

Your probably correct, there's just something satisfying about getting the genuine thing

like paying twice the price for the item. ? ....oil seals for the dog bone linkage for example .... £8 each from aprilia or better quality ones from online at £1.79 each

I can't really comment on the difference between oe an pattern rotax parts.
But I CAN tell you there is a world of difference between a oe honda filter and a pattern one. I was a dis-believer until I cut them open. The pattern filter had about 30% of the filter paper in it when compared to the oe. The price differnce was about £1.50...I've not had a rotax filter apart, so the patterns might be great (or even better). One thing IS for sure, they're not all made in the same factory, nor are they all the same.
Like I said, you pays yer money.....

Hiflo manufacture the oe filters for most companies, they are just packaged as there own.
