Seen this over the last few months, so i decided to send an email to an Aprilia dealer in parts
the reply was this
" Hello, thanks for your enquiry.
APRILIA RSV1000
We are aware of changes to the oil filter but for normal road use there would seem to be little if any advantage in making any alterations.
The same oil filter has been used for all V990 engines since 1998.

So if you are racing ya bike or revving the nuts off it all the time you might need the longer oil filter and cover but for every day road use it will be fine
