Had the mille short of a year and only done around 1600 miles . decided to check oil level and was a bit surprised where it was , a tad over min . I've not smelt oil burning or anything else so what kind of oil consumption are we looking at with the mille . topped up so will see when I'm off to Oulton park next week to give it a run .

Not sure if you know, but the oil level is supposed to be checked after the bike has covered several miles and is fully up to temperature.
If the bike has stood for anything between a few hours and a day or two, it will look like the oil level is way too low.
Its the way these engines are.
Your manual will explain exactly how to check the oil level. It is completely different to a typical japanese bike.
Let me know if you need any more advice but dont just panic and top it up otherwise it may end up being too high.

Yeah , i'd been for a run up the local bypass when I first checked it and the second time left it running on the paddock stand for 20 mins with a blip or two . When I first got the bike I did exactly what you said mate and checked when it was cold so after I topped it up obviousley there was to much and had to syringe some out , you live and learn . Definately needed topping this time though .

Ok
sorry for barking up the wrong tree.
Its just that I panicked and overfilled mine before finding out the correct procedure. I had to siphon some out.
Hope you get the problem sorted anyway

Its this dry sump malarky , gotta get your head around it. I'll see how it is when the weathers fine but if loses oil again within a certain time then somethings wrong.

i have an 02 R with 30k on the clock and it doesn't use any well not enough to need topping up between oil changes.
