Hi guys, can anyone tell mw where the starting point is for how much oil should go in before topping it up (if needed) after letting the engine run???

Cheers..............:thumbup

take for a run- not idle for about 3 miles to get it nice and warm. Come back put bike on level ground and lift up right. Top as required against marks on oil tank gauge.

Do you mean for a full change and filter Andi?
I just did mine and tried to put the recommended 3.9L in - and it gushed out of the top of the oil tank!:doh
Drained a litre out, warmed it up till the fans came on and then it took the litre back to get it 3/4 up the tube.
Probaby best to put 3L in, run it up and then add more to taste once it's warm. Not sure you'd actually be wanting to thrash it around with just 3L in but, as always, I stand to be corrected.

there are 2 drain bungs one on the oil tank and one next to the oil filter housing once these are both out you can get a bit more in

Is it essential to ride the bike as opposed to letting it heat up idling??? Just that the Mille isn't taxed or MOT'd at the moment!!!!

No, you can idle it, you will see the oil level drop slowly than just add more so you get around 3.8-3.9l in.

mine took the whole 3.9. Make sure you warm it up a bit first, leave it to drain for a while and make sure you do both drain plugs (though not at the same time) you're doing the filter too right? Nice and steady when you add the oil and you're sorted

Nah Andi, Idle it till the fans come on - ain't going to get any hotter than that on the road is it?

Fil up with 3L then let settle for a bit run the engine for a bit then top up as needed possibly like 0.5-1L more Thats the way we used to do it griffs
