Hi guys, I've not long purchased a 2003 rsv1000r it had plenty of kms on it at 70,000 but after lots of homework and research found that the milage (servicing considered) was little reason for concern.
Here's where the depression set in, I gave the bike an oil change, taking care to use clean uncontaminated catch pan so I could assess the oils condition. I'm sure by now you know where this is heading, metallic particals, more like glitter than a fine metallic paste. I'm assuming its a chrome or hardening flakes from an engine component.
Either way its not good, the magnetic bung/screw show only a couple of flakes but there was far more settled in the bottom of the drain pan, I've yet to cut open the oil filter to inspect but assume there will be more bad news found there.
Obviously I've stopped riding it, I love the look of the bike, the sound and the way it makes its power, there has been no smoke knocks bangs or rattles.
Please if anyone has come across this would love to hear what may be failing and if its an expensive fix, obviously inspections the only way to know for sure but perhaps you may be able to put me on the right path.
On a side note ducati some models suffer a similar thing with oil contaminates apparently from over revving a cold engine damages the chrome hardening on the rockers could it be a similar issue?
Thanks from a fellow aprilia enthusiast
Cheers, Chris
