Sometimes you think, why did I start this job? Low speed steering on my 02 mille was a bit weird and I could hear the steering damper creaking like an old door, so to get me by I sprayed a bit of WD40 on it and it was ok. Anyway got around to taking it off and the mounting threads in the headstock have been overtightened at some point i think (as had the sprocket carrier bolts..I mean someone must have put all their 18 stone on them, got a new set) The bolt was very tight and may or may not go back in, but suppose i could do my best and use a bit of loctite to hold it. Is the centre mount a swivelly rose joint? If it is, yes it's seized solid. Has anyone used an mille with no damper if i took it off or will i end up in a hedge? If i send the damper off, do Harris still deal with them? Sorry this a bit long winded, anyones opinions appreciated. Thank you.

any ohlins agent can service the shock.

i have ridden a mille without...felt very loose to me but then i was used to one with a damper...the owner said he liked the way it dropped into corners quicker without the damper

You have taken the small allenkey out of the side of the mounting stem that stops the bottom bolt from falling out , if not then this is why the bolt was hard to get out

The chassis on these bikes makes them one or the most neutral you'll find. I sold the damper on my first mille and this one didn't have one. Not once, not ever have I came close to having a tank slapper and I do the majority of my riding on country back roads :devious

Thank you for the replies. Yes i took the grub screw out, but have found a number of fasteners have been overtightened, including damper bolt, which won't go back in. bugger. Looks like I'm going to have to try the mille damperless. As you say wizbit, sure it'll be just fine. ooer...summer's coming! It's going to be baking hot, dry and sunny (well you've got to hope)
