Ohlins forks weeping

Aaaaarrrrggggghhhhh!!

The track bikes fork seals have started to weep slightly, they were fine last month when I checked, but it's obviously not liked being sat in the garage all winter only being bounced every now and again.

I'm relatively competent with a set of spanners but I've only ever changed some right-way-up fork seals with my mate years ago.

I don't fancy taking them to my local Ohlins place as I reckon they'll charge a fair bit, and wouldn't mind doing them myself with the K4 suzuki seals.

From looking at pictures of people doing this on the net the stanchion just seems to slide out of the slider (the bit clamped in the forks) once you undo the bolt at the bottom of the leg without a bushing, so the seals stay inside the slider, is this right? If so it seems a fairly easy job if I can just take the stanchion out and prise the seals out with a screwdriver. Anyone know where I could buy a cheap Ohlins tool to undo the cap?

Maybe you should wait a bit longer, until it gets warmer, the seal will soften up and maybe, if you are a bit lucky, it will stop weeping.

It does happen.

There is a set of seals for the GSXR 1000 that fit the Ohlins on the RSVR. I have them on my bike. They seal better that factory and still have very low stiction. I will see if I can locate the part # I used.

Nothing will work - wait to warm up, cleaning with camera film etc... get them re-sealed. Not all that expensive.

Local Ohlins place wants £160 + VAT to put new seals in, which I think is definitely expensive. Are there any videos or articles on the internet showing how to separate the stanchion and leg?

I had the same issue, got the deals done quite recently but shes been stood in the garage all winter and a few bounces the other day resulted in weeping seals. Took the beast out for the first ride of the season today and they are now fine. Sooooo good to be back in the saddle
