It can be welded but you would need to strip engine of all internals first so the welder has just that bit, people forget that when the item is earthed the entire thing becomes live, when welding and can arc up, in theory you can end up with a piston arcing itself to the bore, then ya proper fcuked, how much pressure does the bit you want welding take when the engine is up and running ?

Too much judging by the way that gear has stamped a mark in the case. That's the intermediate gear right Tim? Quite a lot of torque on it I would think. I would guess that it's more economical to get a second hand motor than to strip and rebuild that one completely to weld it (which might not work anyway).

Yeah I reckon its a no goer listening to everyone. My mate has another engine but the gear selector has alot free play apparently ffs.

Poor ******* hasnt got much money either.

well if the toque is high then i wouldnt chance it, its a ****** cast aswell, will want pre heating and big bevels put on then cleaning afterwards, with no guarentee of it lasting long, not the news you want to hear i know.

I'm afraid it went a couple of weeks ago the guy that bought it I think is a member on here goes by the name of petermvlt might be worth contacting him as I no he was brakeing the engine up or you could try bentleys brakers the women that owns it is a good friend of mine and its where my second engine came from or I know time machine bikes have a couple of engines going at the moment.:)

Oh dear that doesn't look good :confused I hate to say it but I'm fairly sure that is part of the main crankcase so it would mean finding another motor, either to transfer your internals to or just swap the whole thing. That post takes the full torque of the starter motor so I wouldn't risk welding it up. Must have taken a hell of a whack to break that. Only way I can see that happening is if the starter was thumbed while the outer case was off as there would be no support for the idler gear.

Good luck with it anyway :thumbup

hopefully you can build one good engine from the 2 and sell the other bits to claw him back some money...you should be able to sell the heads ,barrels, crank etc

The second motor has play in the Front sprocket, my mechanical knowledge isnt sufficient to crack open the case and repalce the gear bearings.

Tim, You got nothing to lose stripping one engine down and seeing what the gears etc look like.

Start with the scrap engine first to learn with.

You'll be well surprised what is actually in there, and how easy it is to do.

Then you can do the same to the other engine and have one good one, and the added bonus that you have have conquered the great unknown of engine building.

If it dosnt go right then nothing lost, as you have used a scrap engine anyway, and know what to expect next time.

Good luck bud :biggrin
