I ordered a SH487 series regulation reg/rec from the states, it arrived today with a £37.50 customs charge.
The photos on the net makes it looks very similar to the FH020AA mossfet reg/rec. It isn't it's bigger and will not fit the space in the tail.
I will make a plate that spans the subframe and fit the R/R flat above the ECU

It's the standard charge I think, the value has nothing to do with what is charged ! I feel ur pain.....

The reg/rec fits nicely on the subframe cross rail with a couple of size 7 cable cleats

But does it get any airflow there, that's would be my concern. Not that it gets much in oem location.

Airflow and heating, you need a hunk of frame to get rid of the excess heat. Also is fitting just under the seat ? Roasted chestnuts a possibility lol
And the cable ties might melt....

The specs of the reg/rec say 50A with cooling 30A without.
If heat is a problem I will fit a computer type fan over the cooling fins

It could also cook you ecu/ eprom, there is a reason where aprilia put the regulator...

Goggle it, and the FIRST ONE,
the rectifier/regulator on the bike gets very very hot and ...

Is it even earthed ?

The reg/rec body does not need to be earthed, in fact the only component that uses the chassis for return is the starter motor.
If the reg/rec is getting more than warm there is a serious problem, in the standard position, the reg/rec is within a few mm of the bodywork, a really hot r/r would melt it. My r/r is about 25mm from the bodywork and a similar distance from the lid covering the ECU

My original (reg/rec) is fastened firmly to the seat subframe (rsv r gen 1)


You sure it does not need to be earthed ? When the bike blows up can I have first dibs on your engine lol

Why would it need to be earthed? There is a negative cable from the r/r that connects to the battery and every electrical component on the bike. The days of the frame electrical return are long gone, trying to make electricity travel between corroded and painted components is a near impossibility.
I think the last rectifier system that required an earth was the old "washers on a bolt" Lucas rec.
