odd behaviour...

jwer

just recieved my optimate 4 in the post so thought i'd go and fit it this evening - as my bike hasnt been started for nearly 2 months i was getting a bit panicky about the state of the battery as i have an alarm fitted....

ignition came on fine, checked v batt meter before trying anything - 11.6volts, so i gave it full choke and BRRAAAAAAPPPP away she went!! :biggrin :thumbup

has anyone else got any weird stories of their aprillia behaving in a mysteriously reliable fashion....?! :confused

(fitted the quick coupler for the optimate but now scared to use it in case the bike throws a hissy fit and stops working! fiesty italian women eh?! :pirate)

I do find it odd sometimes how reliable my bike is. The only things that go wrong on it are the things I inanvertantly bugger up! The only problems i've ever had have been pathetic. A corroded earth connection and a loose connection to the immobiliser. Engine seems bullet proof.

Engine seems bullet proof.

Always thought the Rotax was the most reliable short stroke V twin around. Having said that, a battery is a battery and you can have the most reliable lump on Earth, wont do you any good if the juice just aint there (specially on a high comp big V).

They are amazingly reliable once you sort the built-in electrical gremlins (starter solenoid, brown connector etc) aren't they. Ducrappi, on the other hand may as well have "made in korea" stamped on em :)

I have had loads of issues with my RSV starting (or not as was the case) From reading through this forum I upgraded the battery and starter solenoid and keep it on an Optimate and now it starts perfectly every time - except when it is left out in the rain! I think water gets in under the seat and buggers something up so the engine turns over but it wont fire up. After a couple of days drying out everything is back to normal

I guess she was designed for Italian sunshine...

Before I went to the Isle of man I stripped the bike down and put dialetic (spelling) grease on every electrical contact point and It never missed a beat going through torrentail rain on the way back.
