Occasional missing/stuttering motor

My 08' Tuono runs flawlessly most of the time. However, recently I've had it develop a serious stutter, usually at lower RPM. So much so that sometimes the motor quits. I pull to the roadside, turn off the bike and wait. Start the bike up without a problem and drive away. Usually without further missing. This happened again twice recently and was so annoying and potentially dangerous I had it trucked to the shop. Shop keeper says this issue has affected some Ducs when battery is less than optimum. This struck a cord as I had not ridden in about two weeks.
What say you?
BTW, the T has aftermarket cans and has been remapped.

Thanks

Mine has an occasional stutter and fart around 3500-4000rpm.Usually happens after a fast blast then have to slow down to pootle through a village. It was worse on the std gearing.Does'nt seem to be such an issue with lowered 15/42 gearing.Mebbe I'm riding through it?:dunno

It'll either be fuel or ignition. Dont know too much about the ignition side tbh, but check the simple things first, like the breather pipe from the tank, if its blocked can cause a vaccuum in the tank, fuel filter blocked with debris, fuel pump connections worth a check, then again if its ignition, batttery terminals tight, ignition coils, regulator/rectifier, mmmmmmmmmm some suggestions

As above. When was it last serviced? Mine does it too at low revs, think its because it has 2 big 500cc pistons as opposed to an line 4 with 250's

Yeah the dealer gave me some old mumbo jumbo about the fuelling.Something to do with the revs that the bike is checked for the Euro emissions test.A sorta cough and fart to pass the tests.

last serviced at around 6K, with an additional 2k now. i spoke to the service guy and added some information, such as on start up the digital display will flicker slightly, and I did not check the battery charge. he said if the battery is not putting out enough voltage it can affect the fuel supply to the injectors which could cause the missing/hesitating. he added that the bike could sit for as long as a month without driving and still be charged enough to run properly. My time on the beast is usually 2-3 days a week with trips of 30-50 miles which should be sufficient to keep it running as it is meant to run. The missing seems to be at around 2000 RPM, but again nothing consistent. It could run fine for weeks, then f---!

I love the bike, but I totally understand your frustration with the missing/farting etc. At 2k revs mine does it a lot, I tend to use the clutch at lot more at low revs to overcome it. I doubt it would be the battery from your above comments, try and adjust your riding style at low revs. Fingers crossed on that mate.

Well GF, I must have a rare beast, there is no missin n farting on mine at all, smooth as u like. Sold my 998 Duke because of the low rpm snatchiness [such a word?]
did hack me off in the end. When I took the T for a test ride, if it would have bucked n coughed like the Duke, I would have looked for summat else. Did fancy the
Brutale.
You sure they aint shoving ethanol in the pumps up North.
When I went to the US earlier in the year, every filling station had ethanol mix only, and the minivan we hired went like a kangaroo, told it was the norm!

Could be the vehicles I syphon the fuel from MC, I ain't particular.:lol
Its not that bad mate, but you can feel it at low revs.

Yep, here in Cali we have nothing but E10. And I've asked several friends and MC professionals about the efficacy of fuel additives. The manufacturers will not commit to a yea or nay on additives. so I tried a fuel additive: Maxima Fuel Stabilizer. Everything I've been told is that any good fuel stabilizer will not adversley affect the motor. Well, I don't know if there is a nexus, but this missing stuff happened after adding the fuel stabilizer. But not with any regularity. The mechanic knows I have used the stabilizer and sez this should not be the source of the problem. So, I'm waiting to see what he finds.
Meanwhile, it's Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot.

Yeah,I once owned a 998S,....bloody thing was always cutting out.I read somewhere that the showerform injectors were notoriously difficult to set up.Great for racing but could be a p.i.t.a on the road. The solid state ecu did'nt help either.

well i got the news on the beast. something about an assembly which affects the charging of the battery which in turn affects the delivery of fuel to the injectors, that causes the misfires and hesitation. so they know what it is (i don't recall the name of the part, if someone out there does let me know), the effing part cost $645 and 2 hrs. labor. so i'll be down $1000 . WTF

**** Bonzer that sounds like a real expensive fix as yer said WTF

Bloody hell, pricey or what. I'd put up with the problem mate. Obviously must be a lot worse than mine

Hells teeth!
Alternator stator?Rotor?Rectifier? 'kin expensive,....whatever it is.:crazy

OK mates. It's a stator assembly which is the ignition unit. #0235830, 12v, 380w. and In the AF1 web site it's more like $967. Maybe I'm not getting hosed. Can't get one 'til next week and when I get the machine back I'll let you know the results. In talking to the shop they said the faulty part was causing the battery to put out about 12v which caused a problem getting fuel to the injectors thus causing an intermitent miss. They also said this is a rarity for Aprilias more often seen in the Ducs.
Thanks for your help!

Glad tae hear its on the mend Bonzer min....and ahv learned anither wee bit aboot stutterin Ts for the future reference.
