Has any body out there got or used an obd 2 diagnostic tool .

I,m considering buying one , as in or house hold we have 3 cars. son who lives in leeds , daughter who lives at home, and our motor plus an ancient vw camper.

like most other people we occasionally have minor probs with one of them . daughters ford KA is by far and away the worst offender ! ( lambda sensor ,icv valve etc

being a bit of a tight arse ( typical Yorkshire man according to the wife ) id rather have a go at stuff myself .rather than empty my wallet at a garage .

so if anybodys got any advice , best one, usability ones to avoid etc I,d be glad to hear it .

shame it would be of little use on the T

I have a cheap one and it's great

It saved me lots and lots as my cars have high mileage and sensors can go but as it's cheap I can't reset airbag lights (prob need a professional when dealing with airbags anyway) or perform proper manufacturer diagnostics, but I can change my own sensors and reset CEL and that's good enough for me. I've had a look on eBay, but can't see mine, but there are simple two buttons ones on there. Just make sure you use a uk supplier so it don't take 7 years to get here

I got one of these about five years ago, a cheap one. My Mrs used to have a daewoo matiz and the lambda sensor used to set the engine management light on now and again. It gives you a list of fault codes to look up in the book and i could reset the light. I have used it a couple of times on other cars and also my mates have used it. Mine doesn't seem to work on diesels for some reason!

You get what you pay for!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woody :cheers

if you want something good for diy then go for a launch x431, you're on about £125 upwards depending on the version but they do abs, airbags and transmission as well as engine management.

the thing with the cheapy things like torque and little hand held readers is they can miss so many things you wouldn't believe it. i had a guy come in the other week, had his car plugged in to cheap reader and it didn't bring anything up, i plugged it in and pulled up half a dozen codes.

Oh yes, definitely get what you pay for. I just use mine occasionally and it helps find fault sensor when something's not right

Re: not working On diesels - old 2 came in later on them. Can't remember - 2004 onwards? Petrols were earlier
