Right it is M.O.T time 4 me soon off to halfords i go 4 the right size number plate !! OH MY GOD HE BRINGS OUT A CHEESE BOARD with my reg on ! :jack

Whats the score with u lot ,big , small or just nothing at all ! Any hassle from the fuzz ??? Give me the dirt ! :devious

Mines standard width at 9 inch and 3inch deep, never been pulled for it but put the big one back on for MOT day:thumbup:thumbup
 
the number plate is nothing to do with the mot.
I second Mal plates, they do a good job
7x5 for me and I wont change it over for the mot.
 
They made me go and get a bigger one knowing full well it was going on the garage shelf straight after only to be seen once a year!
 
should of told them to stick it. !
as long as you havea rear eflector yer ok
 
MOTORCYCLES AND TRICYCLES
Motorcycles and tricycles registered after 1.9.2001 must only display a number plate at the rear of the vehicle.
Motorcycles and tricycles registered before 1.9.2001 can display a number plate at the front but are not required to.
The characters may be smaller e.g.

Character Height 64mm
Character Width 44mm
Character Stroke 10mm
Space between characters 10mm
Space between groups 30mm
Top, side & bottom margin 11mm
Space between vertical lines 13mm



Motorcycles registered on or after 1 September 2001 must display a two-line number plate number plate. Motorcycles registered prior to the 1 September 2001 may display a three-line plate, but one-line plates are illegal, irrespective of the date of registration of the motorcycle.

All registration marks including marks purchased through DVLA's sales scheme must be displayed in accordance with The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 (obtainable from Her Majesty's Stationery Office).

Rules for the display of number plates are set out in law, briefly these are: -

A number plate must be displayed at the front and rear of motor vehicles (with some exceptions).
Number Plates must be easy to read and meet the British Standard.
Lettering should be black on a white plate at the front and a yellow at the rear.
The background surface should be reflex-reflecting but the characters must not.
There are separate requirements for traditional number plates displayed on vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973.
Lettering and spacing must be of a set size. They must conform to one of the groups shown at:- Number plates fitted after 1 September 2001 or Number plates fitted before 1 September 2001.
Number Plate Law
The law states that,

You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers
Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC).
Offences may result in any or all of the following:

A fine of up to £1,000
The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN
The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test

the idea is to find that rare breed...a deaf and blind MOT tester!!!
 
I've just cut the original down makes it smaller and keeps the plod away my MOT station no problem with the plate but made me buy a reflector for £3 so it would pass
 
Standard size plate for me :yes, one less reason to be pulled up whilst howling past the fuzz with AKRA humming :thumbup
 
Mine's got a slightly smaller than standard plate on: 7" x 6.5" ( had this size on last three bikes...no problem from Plod but have always put standard back on for MOT. As for the reflector issue....bit weird as I don't believe I had a reflector on the back of my R6 ( certainly not on RSV) and it sailed through the test......BUT at the same garage as Mr Sharky got grief for not having a reflector?!?

With you on that one Steve. It's something that catches, or doesn't as the case may be, the eye and attracts interest. I remember a photo of a plate in MCN which was matchbox size and buried under the tail tidy. Just asking to get stopped and then have EVERYTHING checked over.
 
I know of many people that have all sort of number plate sizes and over recent years the plod don't seem to be bothered about it but i've seen one particular R1 rider who has a matchbox size plate mounted out of sight on a sawn off hugger :mad1 and to me thats asking for it :yes . I dont see what the problem is if its readable and i do think the standard one are a bit on the ugly side , its the same with race cans :love2 we all know the score with them but no doubt a huge percent of us are riding with them not because we want to scare the living daylights out of everyone , its because personally i want to be heard as well as seen by some idiot in a skoda or a florist van :jack.

When your a biker you know whats what and how much more road sense you need to keep you alive , its a pity all some counties are just interested in pulling you up for a needless so called offence as a small number plate :no i'll avoid any need for them to pull me even though i dont like the huge slab at the rear :thumbup:thumbup
