Not ANOTHER RSVR Gearing Question!

I have an '08 RSV 1000 R. Can anyone tell me, with the stock chain and front sprocket, if I was to go up 2 teeth on the rear, would I have enough adjustability to counter it? And would the change in wheelbase effect handling?

I ask as I assume going 1 down on the front and 2 up on the rear will be too big a difference, I don't really want to be wheeling absolutely everywhere! (Only half the time anyway!)

I am thinking about trying a Renthal sprocket with the standard chain.

Many thanks,

Hi! I have an 07 RSVR. I run 15/42 instead of the standard 16/40. Chain adjustability is still within range. Technically there is a (minute) change in wheelbase when you move the rear wheel to set the chain tension . . . . but I (and I suspect most folks) wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Gearing-wise, 15/42 is certainly not too 'short' - in fact for road use, it still feels slightly 'tall'. How people can live with the standard gearing I can't imagine!

I'm also running with 15/42 set, I think it's nice combination while driving mostly in town and suburbs ( under 100 km/h) but if you are driving more fast I'd suggest to keep the original, fixed set means 4 000 rpm/ 100 km/h and 5 000 rpm/ 125 km/h which is running with too high rews I think.

For mileage if the 15/42 is attempting at least I'll choos next time 16/44, chain can be an issue ( you must have 2 or 4 links more than normal).

I'm runnin 15/44 and loving it! I do a lot highway riding (+130kmh) and revs are just fine, bike attacts like a madman from that speed even in 6th gear.

Not to mention how easy it is to do power wheelies on seconds gear with this setup...
