Not again part 2!!!

Starting problems again! this getting beyond a joke! Had problems with my alarm going off all weekend and the bike not starting, got my dealer to take the alarm off on monday and all seemed ok till now! in brief the following is happening
1. Starter motor works no warning signs showing bike does not fire up!
2. Take the two 30amp fuses (under the seat) out re insert bike starts!
3. When the bike starts it ticks over at 4000 revs No warnings showing
4. When its ticking over at 4000 revs the ignition key does not turn the engine off!! the key works the dash, that turns on and off ok but I have to use the kill switch to turn the engine off!
5. Tripping the 30amp fuses has on a coulple of attempts got the bike running as it should, but it mainly does the over reving not turning off thing!
Battery is kept on optimate. (could a dodgy battery cause this kinda problem?)
Any ideas or pointers to what it might be? All previous advise has been spot on (especially Spoonz!) cheers Baz

Up date! Checked the white connector near the aprilia immobiliser (which was the cause of my previous starting problem a few weeks back) which was supposed to have been cleaned by my dealer an found it was clagged up with green crap! I have cleaned it up with contact cleaner (that didn't really clean it very well) then cleaned it a bit better with bits of of wire wool best I can, and the bike starts ok ticks over properly and turns off as it should! hopefully thats it! Moral of the story if you want a job done properly do it yourself!!
Ps Do any of you electrically minded owners know of the best way to clean up connectors?

Thanks for the advise! I take it then that after cleaning the terminal I smear the grease in and around the terminal?
