hey guys , first of all brilliant site , ive been on several aprilia forums in last couple days doing some research and found this by far the most easiest to navigate and finding the best info and guides , i am hopefully going to be buying my first rsv next saturday

i am currently looking at buying a 2003 rsv v60 its just hit 12k miles and is up for sale at £2395 ono so im going to go back and look over the bike again today and was just wondering if there was anything i should be defiantly checking , im guna check the forks, any damage marks, tyres , sump plug , all the ususal stuff but is there anything i should double check with an aprilia?

cheers guys

anthony :)

make sure its quiet when you start it ie if it screeches on the starter motor the sprag is on its way out (dont ask me how i know this )

hpi check and usual things like tyres brakes panel finish "do all the panels line up"etc and take someone with you if poss as they might notice something you missed ?

ask if any mods have been done like battery upgrade solenoid and charging mods as that will help.

there a decent bike but they have some issues but nothing too bad (sprag bearing seems to be most common due to starting with a flat low battery which buggers them) so make sure on that or it will sting you a few 100 if you cant diy

welcome and hope you like the mille (which you will) lol great fun

im a bit of a diy mechanic and i managed to turn my 1.3 turbo 130 bhp into a 233bhp scooby killer , but as for mecahnics on bikes ive not done anything haha , well im going to go look around the bike again today and ask some more questions as i forgot to ask some yesterday , am i correct in thinking that 12k is like the service for valve clearences ?

ive still got an awful lot to learn about bikes again in general

cheers

Hi fella,

As Lonner says, and check the lock stops for any damage, VIN plate numbers match the frame stamp (on opposite sides of the headstock) and V5.

Or for an extra £200 go for an 01 RSVR, with all the Ohlins/Oz bling, lovely condition. I happen to know where one's for sale ;)

@12k it's due a major service at a cost of about £300 and it's an important one not to be skipped. If it has not been done use that in the negotiations.

Look for squeeks in the rear suspension. If the linkage bearings are neglected they can seize and in extreme cases break the dogbone and collapse the back end. not expensive to put right if the beaarings are gone but best to check.

ah the guy said it had some service history but didnt mention when the latest one was so ill double check that also, i do like the rsv r but i havent seen any for sale locally(ish) i dont mind travelling around 150 miles maximum

well i may try negotiate this guy down to £2000 then it will be even more of a bargain if it holds up well and i check all of the above

cheers

Did it have any goodies on/with it like race can as just that will set yu back another £100, and it all adds up.......if its a standard mille I would want it mint for that price??? .......mind you I only paid £1800 for my red 01' mille with 20000 it has a few scratches but all in all its very tidy.........

i cant get one now anyway ive been ringing insurance up all day and i need 2 yrs ncb at the least or to be 30 years of age which unfortuantly for me my 2 years ncb run out 6 months ago so i now cant get insured

Sorry to hear that man 'shot down in flames' :confused

What are your options now?

Is insurance gonna dictate what you can buy???

If so what u gonna go for now a 600???

even a 600 is going to be over £1000 at my cheapest quote so i reckon its jump back on a 400cc get a years no claim then jump into rsvs :D

Thats a sh*tter mind you those pocket rockets are good fun if your of small stature I always fancied an Rvf400 but I'm just too big for em.........

im 22 and had my license since 2007 which shucks *** im only 5 ft 7 though and had 2 nc30s before so i know a fair bit about em , it will do there fun rather rapid and cheap to maintain so ill just wait , i dont get why they allow you to get a motorbike license if you cant insure a motorbike i hate the way the worlds turning

its all *** backwards , surly your insurance should be cheap untill you have accidents etc , cause if not you pay like £1000 incase you have an accident but you dont get your money back if you dont have an accident !! sheeeze
