Hey guys I know there lots of posts already but mine might be different.

I put a brand new 12amp battery on 2 weeks ago and the is on a Oxford trickle charger, bike started fine but went out this morning disconnected the charger tried to start the bike and it won't fire. It turns over then slowly dies like the battery is goosed. The voltage on the dash reads 12.2v but drops to 9 or 10 when cranking. I know this all points to a knackered battery but after 2 weeks and on a trickle charger? Really?

As a note the battery the bike came with is larger than then the new one I recently purchased and fitted, the guy in the shop assured me it was correct.

Thanks in advance

The standard battery is a 12a but most people replace it with a 14a because the Mille engine (or any other big twin for that matter) takes a lot of energy to turn over. I have been out on a couple of rideouts where I started the engine 5 times within a few minutes and it struggled and that was in the warm weather. Your charger should keep it topped up but it might not have enough energy because of the cold. I too have a 12a battery. A good one, but It was struggling in the cold and eventually I damaged the sprag. You don`t want to be doing that.

That is what I thought that's the last thing I want to do so I have left it on charge and will try later

A 12a should last more than 2weeks. Especially if its on a tender what type of battery did you get you want a YTX12BS

It was a yusa so quite a good one, gonna take it back to the bike shop Tommorrow (the battery not the bike) as it came with a 6 month warranty. So you guys agree then its the bat not something else? Just wanted to check I wasn't going mad :)

Well if its struggling to turn over it would suggest battery to me you could try jumping it off another source to confirm its the battery

Yeah that's obvious I didn't think about it, the voltage on the dash drops to like 9v when cranking which to me says the battery is goosed.
Have you guys heard of 'ferret' he is an electrics guru and has a column in practical sports bike, I was thinking of giving him a call and giving the bike a full going over electrics wise. I have read lots of different posts about mods etc and thinking I could maybe just do them all in one go.
Unless prehaps you guys recommend somebody else ?

Well i dunno how much the ferret would charge, how about giving griff or tash who both know these bikes inside out a call????

griffs in tamworth, tash is in newton aycliffe nr darlington

They are both members of the forum, tash is well tash and griff is user fusebox

Ok update, bike now running fine.

Went back to the bike shop and the mechanic was very dubious about the battery he sold me being duff after 2 weeks, but eventually he gave in and gave me another one. Got home put the battery in and it fired up first try and has been fine all weekend :)
