Hi, forgive me if this has been asked before, but does anyone know what db reading an '04 factory will give with standard exhaust on? would it pass a 101db test?

thanks

Steve

Stock exhaust will pass easily. Most aftermarket should pass with baffles, and some even without!

Here we have 94dB, and passing that is completely another story...

Noise tests in the uk are massively variable. Mallory doesn't have a noise meter, so pretty much anything goes on quiet days.

At Bedford Autodrome my Akras with baffles recorded 102.8dba. Later in the year at Cadwell, the same pipes without the baffles recorded 99.6dba! Given that doubling the volume gives 3dba change, you can see how massive the difference is between tracks.

I expect Beford are as stringent as it gets and the std cans made about 93dba there, so you'll be ok pretty much anywhere with them. I would expect baffled Akras to get through 101dba at most tracks.

If you have an iphone or know someone with one, you can download a DB meter App. I've just put one on my phone so l can check my bike when l get it back.

+1

I've also found that readings also vary by plus or minus 2 dBA depending on the climate!

One of the most stringent is Castle Combe, which is 105 dBA 0.5m to the side of the pipe at 3/4 max revs (i.e. 7500). My '06 comes in at 101-105 with standard pipes - slip-on Akras com in about the same.

Other circuits (e.g. Oulton) do a static check at half revs. Donington, for one, tests using a trackside meter.
