When I stop the bike it makes a loud metallic clunk like the starter hasn't fully disengaged has anybody come across this before? Thanks

It's done it since I got it 3 years ago and never really thought about it till now,is it likely to cause a problem,I agree it is a kinda clack now I think about it
I'd be very grateful if some could write a quick explanation of what the sprag clutch does and what damage will occur if it goes totally thanks
