hi
been a journey so far with this bike and haven't been out on it yet.
now, I have a gen 1 with a aftermarket can and k+n filter.
so, I damaged the tbs, and bought replacement from a running bike . not quite the same but hey ho (both gen1).

I just cannot get it to tickover under 2k revs - if I lower it then it just dies.
have checked for leaks on hoses - small and large.
had a new fuel pump bout 6months ago.
new plugs/coils/caps/leads aswell
it used to tickover so I'm guessing a failure of something.

so any guidance please, as I seem lost with it atm.
This is my project which is nearing its end so no mot atm, so no chance of taking it anywhere to be looked at.
thnx
Hess

ah ha
seems me ol brain wasn't set when fitting the newer tbs.
on seeing the handlebar throttle grip move when I put the choke on- I thought 'that's not right'.
so, out came the Haynes and I set the choke cable which was waay out.
I cant say that is the problem just yet as I'm awaiting new solenoid/battery wires( 170amp)to be delivered.
now, does anyone think that this could of been the problem?

I will post on this thread if ok -or not- lol

hi hess,
hope you are getting somewhere with your probs, im in the same place as you really got the bike in October and not ridden it yet ,but got a multitude of repairs and fixes done over winter.still need mot but too bloody cold yet.
im just up the road from you at long Sutton,we will have to get our heads together perhaps when the weather improves and discuss all the challenges the rsv have thrown us
if you need any reference we compare with photos etc one against the other, sometimes easier than a manual
regards steve

hi steve yeah sounds kool.

now then, adjusted the cables -no joy
checked coils/leads/caps spark plugs -all ok
so,one cylinder had fuel on plugs
checked fuel relay and cut off - both fried with one having no resistance at all.
could this be the problem or just another one ! sigh!

btw anyone got these for sale?

hi hess,
my god this bike is really trying you aint it,if you've got no resistance its open circuit and buggered.if it isn't too difficult to get at ill test mine and tell you what it reads.dont want to take too much apart though as like you im about sick of taking it apart
good luck hope youll be there soon

thnx caveman.
above the ecu under the seat are 3 boxes.1 the diodes 2. the fuel relay and 3 cut off.
2+3 are my issue these look identical but I'm not sure if they are not.
I may have an expensive bonfire soon which will save me anymore problems lol

btw I still cant put any pictures up as does upload but then does nothing?

hi all
so, I borrowed a good multimeter and both are aroun5 which it should be.
one less thing to sort now.
but still just will not tickover , so now I suspect the fuel pressure regulator.
These are expensive :puke
Is there anyway to check these as all I can find in the manual is try with a good one!

well
just following all the wires and down to the sidestand.
disconnected the block only to see 2 wires soldered together, one leads down to the switch, which is also broken in half.
seems I gotta search for new switch aswell.
this could be the issue but cant tell till I replace this:angry

The sidestand switch is unreliable that why people get rid of it.
(Only an American fuktard needs a sidetand switch)

To be honest chap, your all over the place with this.

If it idled fine with the old TB's but doesn't as soon as you bolt on new ones, that is a big clue. The Tb's didn't change the basic design across the whole years on Gen1 rsv's except on the limited edition models (Edwards etc). How do the new ones differ, have you actually measured the venturi to see if they match size etc to the originals ?

A seller might easily mistake different aprilia model Tb's to be the same if they didn't look closely enough.

-------------SOLVED_____________
ok done everything but what I should of done in the first place was check all the connections were right.
so when I got this ape as a project I removed nearly everything to clean.
But I didn't look properly.
On fitting all connections I missed the right way for one of them.
After all this I connected the tip over upside down :stupid
DOH!!
well at least we know now what causes a problem lol
All was forgotten when it struck up with a roar like thunder.
not long now to complete this years task and get on the road
