no fuel pump priming noise

I noticed this morning that the fuel pump didn't make the usual priming noise when i turned on the ignition. Though it was odd so turned off and back on and this time there it was. Rode to work parked up all happy.
Come time to come home and definitely no noise, stopped on the way home and still no noise, when i arrived home i tried it a few times and no noise.

It seems to run fine but i'm a little worried by the lack of the noise and it does seem to smell quite strongly of petrol at times. I get EFI flashing for about 2 secs on power on and then that goes off and it fires up pretty much straight away and seems to run fine.

One other quick question, i have read about rear brake issues but mine seems to work fine, not too grabby and has decent feel to it. I noticed when i got home today though that the disc was really quite hot, even after the short blat home of 4 miles. Is it common for the rears to start binding on the Apes. It was a known issue on my Z1000 and had to have the brakes stripped cleaned and lubed pretty regular but that had done nearly 30000 miles. i notice the Tuono has a wavy disc on the rear so i'm wondering if this has come up before.

Thoughts, observations, piss taking of the paranoid noob Prilly owner all greatly appreciated, although the first 2 appreciated more than the latter.

If your brake is binding slacken the pushrod adjuster underneath the brake lever off a little, so you have a little free play - if it's binding it will heat up and expansion will make it bind more, heating up more etc etc.

The pump doesn't always make the noise. If it runs, the pump works, no pump no go.
 
Not had them symtoms with the rear brake. Usually the problems it just doesn't work.... As a consequence people tend not to use it... At all! So I would hazzard a guess it may have seized through lack of use:dunno
 
You seem to be having lots of little niggly probs, am i right in thinking you have not had the bike long? It might be worth taking it back to the dealer before any warrenty expires with a list?
 
Bat fastard is probably correct on the need for play in the pushrod its a common problem

If its not that maybe your touching the pedal when your riding, my wife did this to a new thundecat and a week later no disc lol

The pump would only prime if it needs to
 
thanks guys, i did wonder about the pump only doing it when needed but it's nice to hear it confirmed.

I'm getting tyres fitted this week so i'll get them to check the brakes at the same time, in the meantime i'll have a look at slackening the push rod off a little, cheers BF.

For what i paid for it Pikeman there's no warranty. There's always niggles but going from Jap 4s to Italian twin is quite a change. It'll get there.
 
smiffy, had the bike been laid up for some time before you bought it?
 
yeah sounds like it was although can't be sure as it was a stolen recovered. Might have been laid up for a few months.
 
smiffy, if the bike wis laid up fir a year or so sometime the pistons in the brake system can fur up or rust because they're sitting outside the calliper body.

Although they have a rubber boot covering them there is a chance that because of the temps they run at there's moisture inside the boot. The moisture causes a film of rust on the piston and when you apply the brake it can't return properly into the calliper.

I hope it's jist the adjustment that Bats suggested but if not it's not a major job to replace the pistons.

A wee tip if your going to leave any vehicle fir a while is to push the pads/pistons back into the callipers.
