Hi everyone newbie here. I've just got my 2002 Aprilia RSV Mille and it's awesome, my first 1000. I need some help please guy's. Sorry if this thread has already been done. The Chain is in bad condition and needs changing, however the sprockets are in as new condition.
I can't find for the life of me what the factory size sprocket's and chain links are. Ive been reading a few threads on here and people mention 15/44 16/42 etc links 108 110. It's all getting alittle confusing as to what I should go for.
I have found some Chain and sprocket offer's on ebay, d.i.d gold x ring chain and sprockets. The chain has 108 links and the sprockets are 17/42.
Is this the factory size? and is it a good combination and what effect would different size's have on the bike?

welcome dude! i think standard gear on early apes is 17/42 and 16/42 on later. it's recommended to drop a tooth or two on front or gain a couple on rear. 15/42 or 16/44 is most common i think but others will add their opinion. i'm lookin forward to changing mine to a more lively set up soon. you'll lose a little top end but better acceleration!:thumbup

Cheers chap, role on the summer! I went out for 6hrs yesturday just to try and get myself familiar to the bike on the rare sunny days we have this time of yr.:thumbup

yep......17/42 is standard...dropped my front to 15 and looking for a 44 rear when I change the chain ....bike will then accelerate like a scalded cat ...just have a play and see what works for you

Cheers chap, what effect does different size sprockets have on the chain links for example 17/42 108 links, is there a rule of thumb?:thumbup

welcome mate, lots of good advice on here. just changed mine to 16 - 42 but not had time to try it yet. Tidworth eh? used to live at perham down in a past life, is the country club still going? cheers Dave

Welcome to the forum mate, I run 15/45 :doug but 16/44 seems to be most common.:thumbup

Thanks for everyone's advice. I have found a chain and sprocket offer on fleabay for £120, it's a DID gold X link chain (108) with Talon sprockets 17/42, hope these do the job.:thumbup

no no no ..thats standard gearing...at least try out a 16 front....see if the guy will supply a 16 front:thumbup

What difference would that make please mate?:thumbup

quicker acceleration. you'll lose some top end but i've heard that once you've tried something like 15/42 16/44, u ain't goin back to standard! can't wait to change mine!

Awesome:biggrin As it's my first 1000 though I'm more than happy with it's acceleration so standard will be fine for me at the mo:bigsmile Atleast I know what I need now when I want to go faster, thanks guy's:thumbup
