Newbie (What Paddock Stands)

Hi Guys,
I'm from just outside Cambridge and just got a Standard 2006 RSV1000R and love it. Had a look at and tried the usual GSXR's but although they are really rapid and they ride well they are everywhere and lack soul. The RSV looks and sound did it for me and the more you ride them the better they feel. I'm 6'2" so the RSV being a big bike helped too.

Anyway first thing I would like help with is Paddock Stands. Please let me know what you would recommend and where to buy them from.

abba stands are superb

Welcome bud! undoubtedley the best one is an Abba stand. They support the bike from the swingarm pivot point which means you can take the rear wheel out easier, if you buy an additional fixing kit to enable swingarm removal, and they are far more stable than any normal paddock stand. Unfortunately you have missed the zones group buy of these to enable a discount. However if you give my good friend knightster a pm i think he is doing a group buy of 3 or 4 which gets you £20 off the £90 rrp. Search for abba stand and you should find the relevant threads.

Abba all the way. Amazing bits of kit and so sturdy you would not believe. If you can hang on 'till the Bike Show (assuming that you were going of course) The Abba chaps may give you a bit off. I got my stand and two sets of adapters for £90 I think.

Thanks Guys very much appreciated and have contacted a guy called Bruce who is trying to set up a group buy or at least was if I'm not too late. If not I will see what I can find used or perhaps as mentioned look at what's about at the NEC show if I get there.

another vote for an abba stand here. i bought mine at the docklands show and they did free postage and a deal for another set of fixings for the missus' sv650

but definitely a rear stand as bare minimum. Depends on what you plan to do. I started with a rear stand to help lube and clean rear wheel and chain then i got a front stand when i started taking calipers and wheels off, now i just bought an abba stand so i could get the forks out!

I use a Harris rear stand, only coz I got it cheap. Easy to use on the paddock stand bobbins and dead secure too.

I would go for rear stand and headstock stand. That will cover 90% of the jobs you need to do on your rsv.

Ultipro for me, no bike specific fixing kit needed and it has fitted EVERY bike I have ever owned, thats 7 and counting. Oh and there is no way you could rock your bike off the stand if you got a little too Jiggie with it

Does Everything and supports the bike in the middle so you can get both wheels off the ground for winter or cleaning....

looks very similar to the abba though. Not seen one of them before. How does it attach to the bike? Through the pivot, same as the abba? Sorry if it's obvious from the pic i'm viewing by phone and the picture is tiny!

Yes its the same as the ABBA but IMHO its better cos

1 There is no paint to rub or scratch off

2 There is no "Fitting Kit" so no extra cost

3 It had a foot that you insert to the rail that holds the stand in a solid
position so you cannot rock it off the stand

It was £80 IIRC and when it arrived I easily got into the packaging in a few seconds.

(If you have ever had a “New” ABBA stand delivered you will know what I mean)
