hi everyone just thought i wud intro myself .shrek my nickname bin riding bikes for thirty years presently have a hayabusa and a very trick kawasaki zx12r,just bought a 2003 mille r 6000 miles very clean ohlins etc bit worried as never had a twin ,hear horror stories bout handling etc.bike is bog standard what is you guys advise bout tuning pipes etc, suspension settings etc tyres any advice would be very gratefully recieved

Hi mate, made a good choice there.
My advice for what it's worth - sell the Busa, keep polishing the Kawasaki, and get out on the Mille. All the horror stories are generally from either ignorant people or those who can't ride very well. V-twins take a bit of getting used to but it's worth keeping at it, incredibly quick through and out of corners and handle superbly. Oh and the noise, absolutely nothing like it!!!
Good luck with it, shame you chose the winter to buy a new bike!!

no horror stories about the handling of a mille?

it will take time to get used to the way they ride especially after your busa and zx12 as they are very powerful/fast bikes

i agree with mumbo :biggrin, sell the busa for a start ,keep the 12 for runs with the wife ,no infact sell the 12 aswell as your gonna need space in your garage for mille spares or even another mille or a 3 or 4 milles they take over your life shrek .wont be long till youve got the tee-shirt and the mug and dont forget the welly model lol oh and boots more pairs of boots is a good idea, most important is look after it mate give it a nice home and service it on time and the most important thing is find the most twisty road you can find and give it aldi `er i mean laldy ride it like you stole it:thumbup busa :puke mille :doug:doug:doug:doug

like a mate told me at breakfast after a fast run through the twisties..... ' please tell me you can't go any faster on that RSV ' he was on a new 2010 Suzuki 1000

16/42 gearing.....good rubber.....and you will never look back

well i dont see why not as its not all about the top speed its how you can carry it through the bends and dont forget the engine braking = less on the brakes means faster in and out. and bends + rsv = one hell of a combination if im right .
the most fun ive ever had was when i was following my mate (and he is one hell of a rider )hes on his 04 plate R1 with loads of go quick bit and ohlins front and back all set up for him and there was little old me on my old 2000 mille thats been sorted with a few mods and 16/42 and we both know this road very well also its a cracking day , so its hell for leather all the way, i was up his arse all the way and if i wanted to i could have got in front a few times but thought no i just want to sit here and let him think why the hell is he still there lol .so theres no way i would`nt give it a right good try against a gixxer or anything like it .it all depends how you feel with your bike and its limits .ive had a few guys try and catch me on that same road and just leave them for dust. i just love it muirkirk road its called made for v-twins and me lol .

keep the stories coming giving me loads of incentive to give it a good go nxt year are there any mods to recommend

a good can to start get the sound right i have twin akras on my 08 bol`dor but single leo vince on my 02 mille R but the single leo is louder and sounds better also makes the bike go better ,power commander is a perfect mod ,good air filter or even the open type if you spend more cash, good chip to beef up the performance , the list goes on shrek you could even go for one of griffs big bore beef up kits and go wild .its all down to what you want and how much you want to spend . the best mod of all mate get the handling spot on for yourself ,i hear griffs the man for that to :) . a bit at a time mate ,a bit at a time .always keep the battery in tip top condition and dont try to start it with a dull battery ever !!! (DANGER) dont ride it till its warm or it can kick your *** right off . oh! and dont ever sell your mille mate as it can result in severe boredom and sadness . wont be long till you`ll be calling yourself madshrek lol hee heee haaaa heeeee haaaaaaaa heeehaaaaaaaa anyone got a spare padded cell ,i was fine till i bought my first mille look what they have done to me heee haaaaa heeeeeeee heeeeeeeeeeee sorry bud im nutts :)

Agreed, get the handling sorted - amazing how for such a big bike they turn into corners quickly.
Forgot to mention engine braking - that takes a little getting used to. My 2000 would regularly lock it's back wheel on downshift, but I kinda liked the thrill of that. My 03 RSVR has a slipper clutch of some kind - I dropped it into 1st by mistake at Brands Hatch the other week and although it made a helluva racket it still didn't step out and bite me!!!
Best bikes I ever had - I wouldn't consider buying anything else unless I was going to go back off-roading!!

just bought full akro titanium system ,carbon airbox, power commander, and a quickshifter booked in next tuesday to be fitted and set up on dyno happy days roll on summer

the lads at the dyno are sourcing one for me,being new to twins i thought a p c was all i needed

I am no expert but was toying with the idea of getting a pc3 from what i understand the pc can only alter the fueling whereas the chip can alter the timing which is half the battle. The chip can give you good gains on its own however these can be tweaked and improved with a pc and dyno

Do you know what chip the guys at the dyno are putting in for you? I try find you a link to different types

Some on here:

I was thinking of getting a carbon airbox - got the full Akra and PC3 fitted already. Where did you get yours and how much?
The guy I bought my bike off says its got a modified airbox but I haven't looked at it yet - going to have to tho as I need to empty the gravel out of it. Don't know if its got a chip or not but it has 57mm throttle bodies and it proper shifts compared to my last one!!

Interested to hear so much praise for the PCIII addition. It will tend to overwrite the eprom. and the tuning is only ever as good as the tech who builds your map.
Having picked up a PCIII, I figure on using it too, despite the assertion from Elliot, who builds the maps for them, that it will overwrite his map. I will have two maps on the chip, switchable by way of the PIN/grn/bl wire at the ECU. Im fairly sure the PCIII can load more than one map, and becomes switchable with more dynojet accessories. I dont really care however, I have a small notebook that I can hook upto the bike. I reckon, build a PCIII map on the dyno to "complement" each of the two maps on the EPROM (a wet and full-power setup) then download the maps to my notebook. Anytime I switch, I can load the appropriate map....takes a few seconds. Jobs a good 'un. Not quite switchable on the fly but good enough for trackdays, my intended use. Eproms are great Im sure but what little I have learned from other bikes and factory fueling, there is no such thing as "one size fits all" - you decided me !
Mods are 57mm TB's, open/hooked type airbox, dual sided collector with gutted Tuono race cans, eprom to suit (boasting twin maps) and PCIII .:thumbup

It's all done via Elliot....(Forza)- keepin' it uk !
Dynojet only works as piggyback . The beauty of the chips allows ignition curves as well .
PCIII only overrides chip, tailoring the already custom chip to my bike, my engine, intakes etc....making an already good set up , better ! It does not alter chip program in any way.
Just collected rebuilt rear end ..... time to start putting it on wheels !
