Hi... im in the process of buying a RSV Mille 2002... has a standard can & filter but seems to have a sticker on the ECU with Bombardier... is this standard !?

iv had numerous bikes... only v-twins iv owned were a CX500 & VT500E in my despatching years... im actually still in the game... but now in the office !!

just selling my CBR600F... before that i had XJR 1200... Bandit 6... then numerous GSXR's 750/1100 ageing from 85-91 !!

iv still got a 'fightered' GSXR 750F (1985)... but has Bandit 1200 engine... usd forks... single swingarm... underseat exhaust... so will be using the Mille to commute 17 miles each way from Leytonstone through city/westend to Chelsea !!

done a quick search... seems il need to change gearing slightly to 1T down on the front... fit a .40 clutch jet... this seems too help low/mid range through town... anything else i can do !?

read about chips/topless air boxes & wire connectors... might have to read more on this stuff... just need to check what ECU chip is in already... iv also got a Ardrenalin Junkies GP exhaust with the bike... so will need mods to help run this can !?

Cheers... Brian

Hi Brian, regarding chips, Dr Rossi is the man to talk (pm) to :thumbup he does one that will smooth it all out and may be able to tell you about your chip you have in at the moment :thumbup

Any pics of your bike and AJ can :devious

Hi... thanks for the welcome... no pics yet... still in the process of buying !!

its the silver with red belly pan... but im going to re-paint it slightly to make it abit different... black belly pan with red 'APRILIA' sticker !!

i like to be abit different... the GP can changes the look so much compared to the massive original... must lose about 5lbs minimum... lol !!

Dr Rossi seems to be the man according to my searches... do these chips need to be welded in or just clipped in like... ermmm... mobile sim cards or memory cards ??

how many mpg do these do... my XJR did 32mpg... the CBR 600 does 50mpg... i believe the 2002 is a 18L... how much is reserve !?

My 2000 model has a 19L tank and i can get 160miles if taking it easy. Whats that then... about 38 mpg :dunno

Don't have a reserve tap but the fuel light comes on at 130-140 so about 20-30 miles to empty. I start panicking after 20 miles :biggrin

when it comes to bike mechanics im lost only thing ive done is oil change and filter and changed can to high level leo vince would i need a chip to run this can better?

this is the paint job id get done @ sudden impact 'when' i get it... they awaiting their V5... lol !!

the tank will remain original with the 3 black stripes though... will just getting the original mid & belly pan re-painted/decals 1st !!

excuse my photoshopping... lol !!

am i going to have problems with the battery/starting if i cant connect to a optimate all the time... il have no access... it will be parked in driveway !?

also... if worse came too worse... is it at all possible too bump start a Mille... iv heard its impossible for big v-twins... but i doubt that show how... surely a good fast bump in 1st would do it !?

You cannot bump an RSV, and I would imagine a very expensive sprag clutch repair bill would follow if you tried/could.

The Mille needs an excellant battery at all times , not just for starting but for the electronics.

If you are riding it constantly then you may be alright , especially if you havnt an alarm fitted.

Alternatively get an extension lead and a waterproof box to house the Optimate in)

I think they also do a waterproof extension lead for the Optimate?

I've left my 4-way extension lead out on to my bike when it's been raining before, just make sure it doesn't collect in any puddles, and put the Optimate on the bike seat, under a bike cover?

Even left it on my car overnight before routing the cable through the letterbox, and putting the Optimate under the bonnet, and then closing it!

BIG THANKS for all the replies so far... ... ...

iv read that the clocks have a voltage display... is this good for keeping an eye out for a weak battery... or can it still show a good voltage & be to weak to turn over the pistons !? :dunno

does the taller YTX14-BS help... & in what way !? :dunno

i spoke to Dr Rossi... ... very nice guy & seems a very reasonable price... just need to get me mucky mits on the bike too check out the what chip is already in there !! :eatcorn

Welcome to the forum fella, i have no knowledge of mechanics so cant help you there, as for battery and starting problems, ive never had mine on an optimate and never had a starting problem :thumbup:thumbup

I have an alarm on mine and have left it for a few days with no problem starting it. Then i left in it my garage for 10 days. connected the optimate and said goodnight.

Come ten days later and it's showing 8 volts with no start. All of a sudden i think "F*cking Italian Sh1te I'll never buy one again" Of course this is before I noticed the switch for the socket on the wall wasn't switched on.

I think I'm more unreliable than the bike is.

Anyway point is ten days with no riding and no optimate is a no no. Simples.

No alarm so no optimate on mine as yet no problems, fingers crossed bet i've cursed it now!! praying she now starts in the morning lol:dowhat

sweet... i might use a alarmed disc lock instead so it wont draw any current from the battery but still have a 'audible' deterrent... along with my Almax 4/Squire lock & Hardie ground anchor !! :devious

ps i forgot too say how much i paid... RSV on a 02 plate with service history & 20,000mls... was knocked over by driver reversing :rant... very slight mid panel scratches (now been properly prepped for painting) & slightly dented by pillion peg original can... swingarm survived unscathed... ...

... ... any guesses ?? :biggrin

Thats a good price mate, its worth 10 times that in smiles per miles alone :biggrin:biggrin:biggrin:thumbup

all sanded etc... & prepped for painting !! :biggrin

looking at the exhaust... seems shorter than a AJ GP exhaust though similar with the clean welds/design etc... so maybe another make... i just assumed for memory & googling !? :dunno
