New Tyres????

A

amb67

Right, I have a need for guidance on my next purchase and before you all say 'Read the previous posts' I have.

I have managed to beg, borrow and steal almost £200.00 without my missus catching me. I had a bit of a do last weekend and fooked my rear tyre and I am now in the market for some new tyres.

Currently I have Pirelli Super Corsa Pro's fitted and if I am to be honest, they are never going to be used in full by me. They were fitted when I bought the bike and had been ragged by someone on a track, the rear right hand edge had cold tears in it as long as your arm and had worn more on that edge too. It is worn so badly that it spins up when powering out of a corner and feels horrible when tipping the bike in to a right hander.

My points are:

1. Do I really need to spend all my money on Corsa 3's or 2CT's when I am just your average rider. Surely a set of pilot sports or D208's would suffice for me?

2. I only cover around 2000 miles a year or slightly over, most of it done on local roads in the summer. Never gonna do track days on my bike so my need for a high performance tyre is pretty much zero.

Your input would be much appreciated, experience of tyres is something I don't have, due to me not doing many miles a year.

I used to love Rennsports Amb, and they are very cheap these days squire. Never tried them on the Aprilia, but I can't imagine they'd be a bad choice of tyre unless someone on here has tried and knows otherwise? :dunno

Mine came with D208's.......they didn't stay on long after I collected the bike. Pants is the most polite way I can say it.

Looking at what you say you do mileage wise, a set of 2 cuppa tea's would last you two years squire in my experience.

Happy shopping :D

I have generally been a Pirelli man but 2 of my mates are jumping up and down about Bt016's.

They rate them better than anything else they have tried so might give them a shot. Triple compound front and 5 compound rear.

I wouldn't go for DCIII's or 2CT's, go for a single compound compound tyre , youll get no advantage from these types of tyres given your "I am just your average rider".

Maybe the Dunlop RoadSmarts or BT014s ??

Just reading about these BT016's, they sound wicked.

Found a set for my RSV on here Click me for £169 delivered.

That's going to take some beating guys.

I'm off to Scotland on business all next week, so will need to get my order in ASAP as I want them to be delivered for when I get back.

What do you think?

Do it or go for the Corsa 3's/2CT's????

i just fired on the sports touring bt021s which are even cheaper and they have leant right to the edges with no quibbles, also they ar4e great in the wet. going to have good milage too. If you haven't done so i'd say try a 180 rear as i really liked that shape over the 190.

Can only comment on my experience. Pirelli corsa 3's 900 miles from new to illegal...Now put 2ct's on and am very impressed. Mileage from tyre already better than pirelli and bike also feels so much more stable...Though have pillion 90% of the time....Can't comment on new Bridgestones but the older ones made my bike very unstable over white lines/cats eys.

I have Metzeler M1s on mine and they are great !!!!

Super sticky and seem to be wearing well.

Just ordered a set of Pilot Road 2 to stick on my '03 rsvr, off ebay £178 delivered from roundandblack. Gonna stick these on for the winter, see how they go. I've always used Pirelli before, got the 2ct's on my factory - awesome.:thumbup Good luck mate.

Yo Amb.

Get the Pilots dude. Better in the wet than anything else and last for yonks. You saw how I blast:devious
and I got 5k from my front and 3 on the rear:biggrin

Being an adventurous sole I decided on the BT016's.

Since 4pm this afternoon I have read reviews on the top tyre recommendations from all you guys.

I did consider all your information kindly donated, many thanks for this.

My reasoning behind the BT016's was largely from my experiences on my last bike. I had a ZX6R with Bridgestones fitted and it was fantastic to ride wet or dry.

Should be here in a few days, fitted by the weekend, will report here to let you all know what they are like.

Amb dude your tyres were SO ****** that anything will transform your bike! I am shocked that its taken so long...

So you won't be interested in buying my Corsa Pro's off me then Flick? LOL

I've done 500 miles on them since we went to Ashford, you thought they were fooked then you should see them now.

:eek2 your ******* mad.

you will love the BT 016 tyres mate. They are awsome! The best road tyres i have tryed. The center is staying new looking and the sides are ragging up like a soft tyre does. So good mileage and plenty of edge grip for when you are having fun!!
