New tyres... But which ones?

I need to replace my rear tyre... Front is nearly new, so I am going to stick with the pilots 2's that I have,however... My current tyre is a 180 but I have read that a lot of you go for the 190!

Question... What is the benefit of a 190 over 180

This is my first bike and still learning so forgive me if this a stupid question.

Thanks

Si

I wouldn't go to a 190/50 but go for a 190/55.

Assuming you are currently running a 180/55 a 190/50 will turn in slower (which you may not like) , however a 190/55 will turn in just a quick as a 180/55 you just get a bigger contact patch (so more rubber on the road effectively).

This.

Always run 180/55 but like the idea of a 190. Are there any problems with size or does it fit without any issues?

The only issue I have heard of is that the Dunlop xxxSmart 190/55 gets very close to the chain and in some cases you can get a little chain strike but it seems a random thing.

I have run Sportsmarts with no issues, run the Maxxis 190/55 at the momment owing to cost and have no issues with that either.

I've got a new set of Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact's on mine, 180/55 on the rear, and they've been running a treat thus far. Definitely stick with the /55 on the rear though...

I have had a 190/55 Dunlop Sportsmart on my 08 RSV for the past year, has done around 4000 miles and it has been excellent in both wet and dry and gave me loads of confidenece during my September wet tour around Scotland!! No problems with clearances from chain etc if your chain tension is set correctly. Just about to replace the tyre with the same again. This has been the best tyre I have used so far. No I am not a rep for Dunlop!!! :)

Are you sure.. Sounds like it to me lol

Another vote for the Sportsmarts here.
They are a good quality, full on sports tyre and as sticky as a sticky thing.
They give about the same mileage as a Sports/Touring tyre did a few years back.

I bought a pair for £230 delivered from Oponeo.

PS I don't work for Dunlop either :)

Thanks for all the feed back guys.. Spooky has fixed me up with another 2ct only going for a 190/55 as recommended by you guys.
