Scottish borders
Hi all, quick intro, I did a deal yesterday to trade my 58 plate hayabusa for a 55 plate tuono 1000, my mate had one for 4.5 years and never had a problem with it apart from a clutch bearing failure , any other things I need to watch out for? It's a one owner bike with 17400 miles , also has an acoprovich can, to be delivered in next few weeks :) Martin

greetings and salutations Martin, I am sure you will enjoy your new steed. have a trawl through the search engine and it will answer most questions.

always seems to have a couple of Ts up for sale in there, where abouts the borders are you from? that's my usual run around area

Hi, I,m from Galashiels , some great roads up here in the Scottish borders :thumbup

Yes but that's all part of the fun :cheers one of the guys I ride with had one for 4.5 years and 22k miles and only the clutch bearing failed in all that time, luckily it was right outside the B&B in Ullapool we were staying at , ended his trip mind, he still raves about it :thumbup

search the forums for electrical connectors. real easy to resolve. Check the earthing. See if the reg rec has been changed for a more grunty one (like a mosfet shindengen) and that the battery is ok (these engines can be tough on batteries if your charging circuit is not up to scratch - hence see electrical connectors, earth and reg recs). If you're not going to ride it often, it may pay to get a trickle charger.
check the side stand - they're a bit of a pants design on the non-us bikes and can allow the bikes to topple easily which can make the gear lever or rear brake lever crack the frame. Most folks change them for a honda blackbird stand or us market tuono stand instead (the us market has tougher regs on side stands).

the other thing to know is that these are EFFING AWESOME bikes and that you may need help to remove the grin from your face after you start riding it. ENJOY!

couldn't agree more mate, stayed in Innerleithen a couple of times, Hawick last year and heading up to Ayr this year for our Easter run out

Hi , thanks for all the advice, bike is a one owner bike with 17400 miles on the clock, fish and mint, owned by an engineer who restores classics so very well looked after, hopefully getting it delivered in the next week or so as in the depths of winter and too much snow and salt about :-( never usually on the road till mid April but expecting my first child on march 28th so not sure how much I,ll get out early in the season , I usually go on a four day trip up north on the may holiday but had to pull out this year :thumbdown it's Orkney this year , went last year too so not like I,ve not seen it but will be gutted to miss it as been doing them for the last 10 years , still at least when I do get out it will be major fun !!! Can't wait to ride it :cheers:cheers:cheers:cheers:cheers
