Have had I4s. Have owned and loved the I3s (Speed Triple). But the point is I'm used to the reving up and rev range and character of more cylinders. So acclimating to how the twin feels and sounds. (have ridden a few cruisers but they are another cup of tea entirely)

What rev range is ideal for cruising? At 3k it was pretty lumpy when I got back on the throttle - dogging with lots of vibrations. And in top gear at freeway speeds it felt like I needed to be in a lower gear. 4-5k seemed comfortable and responsive.

Any other bits of sage advice on how to extract the awesome from this lump?

Also any advice on common mods to do or issues to address is appreciated... and what are my exhaust upgrade options?

My advice is ride faster ha ha .....3 k at what speeds...don't give it a big handful just ease the throttle

Change the gearing to make it more responsive.. Gen1 likes 16-44

Fair enough. I basically rode the bike 75 miles home after buying. Was mostly freeway with some onramp/offramp and heavy traffic, so a good amount of filtering, as it was getting dark and occasional light rain. Oh an the old front tire on there is toast and squared and don't have a lot of trust in it. You know your basic trial by fire urban funtime. So speeds were anywhere from crawl to 70/80 mph. Even at 80 mph top gear felt to low. When filtering more slowly if I let the revs drop the dogging was most noticeable when getting back on the throttle. But paying more attention to keeping the revs higher helped. Yeah and I do recal thinking it responded better feeding the throttle more slowly. But what fun is that?
