Hi
I'm just about to take delivery of 2006 RSV Factory on Friday & while I'm VERY excited about it I was wondering if any of the problems/issues that I've read & heard about were fixed by the time this '06 model came out ??
Items such as the side stand that was too short ...... The poor rear brake etc or are these still an issue that I will need to look into ???
Thanks in advance for my help !!

Cheers

Mark

It's an Italian bike mate, there will be many problems along the way. But there's a sh*tload of help and expertise on this forum and on RSVR.NET, so you'll never be on your own.

Enjoy the bike, despite their issues I wouldn't have anything else - and I've got four of them so I like to think I know what I'm on about!!

Cheers MumboJumbo !!
That makes me feel a lot better as I must admit I was apprehensive about getting one as I've got a 2007 R1 that I'm trading in for the Aprilia & while I realise the Aprilia may not be as reliable as the R1 ( or will it be !!!) I just couldn't resist the lure of the Factory any longer & am looking forward to having some useable torque rather than just a screaming top end !!!
Nice to know I won't be alone on here though too :thumbup:thumbup

Well I've had RSV'S since 2004 (got 4 at he moment) and wouldn't want anything else. Dipped my toe back into the world of IL4's last year on a Blade but got rid pretty quick - great bike and easy to ride fast, but so boring!! I love twins, and stupid as it may sound I like the challenge of riding them fast.
I've had very little in the way of breakdowns and problems - apart from the one that caught fire and committed suicide, but that's another story!!!

LOVING the bike !!!......... Quality components & a fantastic ride !!!!! I can now understand why you have 4 of them !!

Hi mate,

Yeah, the side stand is still the same on these models. I've bolted a 8mm plate cut to size to match the footprint of the existing one on mine-a lot more stable now. I know R&G make nice looking kickstand shoes for them if your looking for something a bit blingy. Keep the battery in good condition and that's about it. Mine ain't missed a beat-even the back brake has worked fine since owning it.

Cheers Foxbuster !!........ Took it out for its 'first proper' ride today & loved every second of it !!........ I fitted my trickle charger to it to keep the battery in good health ( has a decent Yuasa one fitted which was good) & I'll look into the side stand 'fix' too ....... My back brake seemed fine too & i definitely felt it working so fingers crossed all is good there too
Cheers for replying

No worries mate, you went out today??! It's blowing a f'ing gale down here and lashing down!
Glad your happy with it, reckon they are 100% more fun than my 09 blade.......and on par, if not better then than my old sp1:)
All the best Mark-enjoy:)

hi mate the only issues i have had are battery but i see you have a trickle charger on that and the main issue i have at the moment which seems common is the petrol cap leaks where the seal goes. Other than that no bother lol enjoy the bike mate

Thanks for that mate , I'll keep an eye on the fuel cap seal too but got to say I'm LOVING the bike so far , much more involving than my old '57 reg R1

Regards

Hi Mark
Just a quick question . See you bought the bike I am looking at , what do you think with the experience of owning this beauty any probs so far ?.
Thanks

Hi Micky
Only had the bike a few months but so far I love it !!...... I had an 07 R1 before the Factory & while it was a fantastic bike you had to rev it to get the best out of it BUT with the Factory there is just grunt from seemingly everywhere in the rev range which makes for a more enjoyable ride in my opinion !
The bike certainly gets attention as you don't see many of these compared to more mainstream bikes which is nice if you like being the centre of attention LOL !!!
The ride quality is fantastic thanks to the quality Ohlins suspension which gives much more feel than what I was used to on previous bikes as well as giving the bike a certain 'bling' factor if you like that kind of thing & the Brembo brakes are incredible , plenty of bite with good feel , I haven't yet experienced the apparent rear brake issue that can affect these bikes but there are various mods around to alleviate the issue as I can see why the heat from the engine would affect the performance , this does seem to be a design flaw with this model & depending on how much you use the rear brake will determine if this will be a problem for you or not !
I have had no issues with build quality & it seems to be as well built as my R1 was so all good on that front so far, in fact I've had no issues with the bike at all mechanical or otherwise !!
I spoke to a very knowledgeable dealer before I bought the bike & was told that he has never had any issues with the engines on these models & if anything did go wrong he would suspect that it was due to owner neglect & NOT an issue with the engine which I found very encouraging , I love the 'v-twin' grunt & performance & while it isn't as powerful as my R1 was in the real world it's much more useable & accesible
To sum up I'd say if the bike you are looking at is clean & tidy & has history then buy with confidence & enjoy riding & owning something a bit different from the 'normal' manufacturers , all you have to do now is pick which colour scheme you want ( mine is black & gold which I personally think is the best combo )
Hope that helps in your decision but I don't think you'll regret it , let me know how you get on !!

Cheers

Hi Mark
Thanks for that , sounds great , cannot wait to get hold of one , might be a bit yet as van driver smashed my ankle , but been in touch with Aprilia performance about one so will get sorted as soon as I heal .
Cheers for reply .

I wish you to get well soon! In my opinion, rsv feels a little bit weaker that the in4s but they are not. They have fun, and its easier to use all their power. Also, very good quality and racing dna.

Cheers tedyboy
I was in a Aprilia dealers this morning drooling over the bikes . They had no Rsv1000's but plenty of Rsv4 which I cannot afford . Still beauties though and I can dream :thumbup
