Hey all - just saying Hi. Some of you will probably recognize the s/n from TLZone...yup, same guy. Now the owner of a new-to-me 2007 RSVR which I bought to possibly replace my Suzuki TL1000R. I haven't really ridden it much; just 25miles tonight bringing it home (that would be 40km for the rest of the world). Like a noob, I have a bunch of [probably] common questions...

The bike feels ridiculously light on steering; it wants to fall in VERY easily, especially at slow speeds. I've never ridden a bike this light; slightest input and the bike just seems to drop. I feel like I'm gonna dump the thing during slow maneuvers. I've been riding for 12 years or so and been on a number of other bikes besides the heavy TLR (FZ1, 636, R6 to name a few more recent ones) and none of them felt like this. Tires appear to be original Mez Renntec and I admittedly haven't gone thru the usual suspects like suspension setup, tire pressure, etc... Fork and shock height do appear normal. The manual says 3 lines showing for fork. This does not include the "line" where the fork cap meets the top of the tube, correct? My 3rd line (not including cap) is flush w/ top of triple clamp. Rear fork looks to be near the bottom of the height adjustment range...definitely not jacked up.

This bike is hot, DAMN hot. This RSVR makes the TLR look like an icebox...really. I literally cannot touch the bike's frame after that mild trip home. I did some searching and read that the RSVR does normally run hot like the TLR, but this seemed too hot. One specific thing I noticed: the bump stop for the rear shock is definitely melted on top. Is this a sign of abnormally hot, or is this common? The motor/coolant held at proper temp (180*F). I did notice a couple of nuts welded to the rear cyl downtube, nothing attached though. Should there be some heat shield here? My leg tells me yes.

Thanks for any pointers or info!

Welcome mate - mine's the older model so not sure about your heat shield but certainly shouldn't be getting that hot - but 180F is only 82C (you can set the dash to read either) so the engine isn't getting that hot. Is the exhaust touching the frame for some reason?
As for your steering - again, I'll leave advice to owners of your model but it really depends what you're comparing it with - they don't need a lot of effort to turn when set up right. Tyre pressures (and maybe wear profile if yours are pretty old) make a big difference.

Thanks A303!

I did confirm that there is supposed to be a heat shield on the factory down pipe; that probably will make at least a little difference. Off to buy that (side note: good places to get parts? just noticed that my usual web sites like BikeBandit do not sell Aprilia parts).

I setup an appt with my local Aprilia dealer for them to give the bike a once over; probably the best folks to let me know whats is/isn't normal.

I found this type of thread useful: Common Issues. Off to look up details on a couple of those...
