I have just picked up a 2003 Mille with a noisy sprag clutch. I have ordered the sprag, outer housing, gear and gasket ready for next weekend.
I have a couple of questions about the bike.
I think part of the reason for the sprag is a **** battery, Dynavolt DTX12BS 10Ah 160CCA. I'm thinking a Yuasa or Varta TTZ 14S 11Ah 230 CCA or Motobatt MBYZ 16H 16Ah 240 CCA would be more suitable.
To improve reliability I will fit the FH20RR reg/rec with the correct (Japanese) connectors, 150A or bigger solenoid and 25 sq mm battery, starter and earth cables
Is the tail section and pillion seat the same as the Tuono? It looks similar (my seat is mismatched)
I want to give the engine every chance to breath whilst keeping the mods "discrete" so I am thinking early style airbox intake, remove restrictor, K&N or foam filter. Then at the other end remove the baffle from the silencer inlet and the redratbike collector mods. Any thoughts?
Forza 200 chip and / or Power commander?

Cheers in advance
Andy

Another thing, when I put my 73KG arse on the bike the suspension sags by about 15mm at the most. I guess a previous owner was a lot more "substantial" than me. A slightly weaker spring may be in order

Or your mods sound good

The fr200 will work well if you want to eek every last bit of power then it's pc3 and a custom map but at a cost

I bit the bullet and ordered a SH847 Reg/Rec. Expensive, but as its a series regulator it removes the excess load from the alternator instead of dumping it to ground. A by-product of this, when the battery is fully charged the 500W that was driving the alternator is available at the rear wheel.
I had a peep inside the ECU, the eprom is labelled P24

The brown plug has previously been deleted however the round plug hidden in the V (what a bastard to reach) is toast. I will chop it out and solder 3 new cables to the alternator all the way to the plug on the new reg/rec. I think the starter cables have been upgraded already , they are 16 sq mm and covered with woven nylon braiding

The parts arrived whilst I was up in Scotland.
This morning I was up with the sparrows and replaced the sprag, outer sprag housing and the gear. While the alternator was off I extended the yellow wires with 1.5 sq mm tri rated cable, I also extended the crank sensor wires. The joints were individually shrink sleeved, then a shrink sleeve overall and finally a nylon protective braiding.
The alternator wires plug straight into the reg/rec and the crank sensor plugs into a new connector adjacent to the reg/rec
When it was all connected up I fitted the new Motobatt MBYZ16HD, turned the key and thumbed the button. It started instantly with no clanging or crunching noises RESULT :)

The starter solenoid and cables have already been upgraded.
I picked one of these up from Maplin Tamiya Race Pack Connector | Maplin and fitted it to a 2 core cable. This cable was then soldered to a permanent fused live and earth on one of the relays. The cable is about 300mm long and coils up under the passenger seat, this allows me to plug my accumate charger when the bike is not in use. It removes the risk of croc clips becoming disloged.

My modified collector arrived from Redratbike late this afternoon.
It was actually quite a quick job to replace. I dropped the belly pan off, removed the silencer, disconnected the springs, removed the trim from between the radiators and loosened the exhaust nuts a couple of turns (a 1/4" drive socket made this easy). The collector just wiggled free.
While the silencer was off I removed the baffle from the silencer inlet
The whole job took less than an hour :)
I hope this cut on my head will be healed in the next few days so I can get out and play
