Hello, picked up a 2002 mille on the wk end, and as I'm new to these I was looking for a bit of advise on things to check, I have been scrolling through the forum but thought I'd start a thread, please add suggestions, such as

Charging circuit mod
Restrictors
ECU wire etc.....

Any help would be much appreciated

Congratulations on your purchase..

You could have a look through my thread, I have made pretty good progress running through the bike getting it as ready as possible for riding.

I would recommend servicing it first.

Oil change, plugs, air filter, check shock linkages clean and re grease, ensure rear wheel is aligned correctly as the swing arm markings are out, early model air intake (less restrictive), valve clearances.. uprated solenoid 150amp version and setting up your suspension.

This is a great forum among a couple of others and you will find it houses some very knowledgeable people.

Search function will bring up what you need :thumbup

:cheers

Hi cheers for your reply, il defo have a read through your thread.

Bike had a service about 300 miles ago and service book stamped,
But might redo it just to make sure.

As for suspension, the back end seems to sit slightly lower than other RSV I sat on. Do you know the standard setting for a good starting point??

The manual will tell you! If you dont have use the search because I have seen a link
to download in previous posts...

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Cheers, that's great, can't wait til wk end to give it a good look over

Just been going through paperwork, full service history, valves were checked and adjusted at 16000 miles and had a oil, plug etc.. Atleast once a year, sometimes twice, bike is currently on 22000 miles

Handy the clearances have been done recently, I'm going to check mine once a year, although its probably over kill! Also check the brake disc bobbins rotate freely...

Right, finally got to spend a bit of time on the mille, spent a few hours cleaning and degreasing, she's now starting to look good.

Looks like the previous owner has done a bit, found

Uprated battery
Wiring mods done on charging system
Wire cut on ECU
Open style airbox with piper cross foam filter
Full tool kit! Ha
Remus exhaust system (need to check for collector mod)
Lots of carbon and anodised bits!!

Next I need to check if the standard chip is in there??

Any other suggestions????

Can't wait for the salt to clear now so I can get up the beacons on her!!!!

Yeah, I hope he did? Haha

Got one or two photos but don't know how to upload from an iphone, any ideas???

Hello mate when you click reply you will see a bar at the of the box with a small picture click that and click download from computer it will go straight to your pictures on the phone :)

That's an open air box of some sorts, the plate is meant to seal to the underside of the tank to increase the volume. Lets it gulp more air. :) been meaning to do mine.

Where do I find the brown connector, would like to check condition of it and if it needs removing

Thanks

Hi Scotty,
To get to the brown plug you need to take the rear fairing off and it will be on the right hand side of the bike,it's not too bad to do the mod you just need to be able to solder.
Cheers flick
