Hi, I'm Rich I've found a mille i'd like to buy, When i viewed it the other day i noticed an 'rsvzone' sticker on it. As i've never bought a second hand bike before (this would be the second bike i've ever owned)!, i'm pretty nervous about not buying a shed. I wondered if any of you ever owned or know someone who owned S99 RSV? She's a red 2000 basic mille. She's clearly had a new standard silencer and there's a good deep gouge where the previous silencer has come into contact with the swingarm. Other than that it looks pretty good, sadly the dealer couldn't get her started (either flooded or shagged batttery) so i've not had a test ride yet. Any info on the bike or words of advice would be appreciated!

Oh, it won't be the second bike i've ever owned - i did up an ancient CX500 a few years back! more fun working on it than riding it!

Hi Rich welcome matey :thumbup

I have info on that specific bike matey but on all GENI milles there are things to look out for and I'll list them:

- Never try and start them with a flat battery, they will almost inevitably destroy their sprag clutch
- If the swinger is damaged then check the frame behind the gear and brake levers as the frame may be dented (bike are usually written off by insurers if that is evident
- When/If the dealer is able to start it listen when when he cranks over for a cruntching/rattling sound (sprags gone if thats the case). These bikes have mods to fix the hard starting, )i.e. uprated solonoid, battery and earthing cabling (from killaprilla) and hardwiring of the regulator / rectifier)
- The motors are pretty bullit proof but they don't like to be overrevved constantly

If it's really cheap then its worth a punt but there are a lot of great example rsv's out there for not much money these days (have a look at the magazine rack this month as there is yet another article in one of the rags about budget bikes that include the mille)

Hope this helps

cheers
Deacs

welcome bud

top tip be patient and always take a friend when looking as rose tints are your worst enemy when buying and walk away if anything dont ring true.

deffo HPI check as that will most likely be a cat D which is ok but the price should reflect this

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I realise that i've made it sound pretty bad, the gouge in the swinger is about an 40mm long and 2mm deep, surely not enough of an impact to twist the swinger in the frame? It appears to have been caused by the rib of weld where the can is attached to the tapered cone of ally that meets the pipe. Mileage is 10k and i've seen the mots to prove, dealer says its HPI clear but does that inlcude a report on any accident damage?

Deacs you say you have info on the bike? Can i get in touch to receive said info?

if its hpi clear then its not been registered as a insurance write off so ok on that score.

as its from a dealer id not worry as much as he will have to warranty it for 3 mth sale of goods act etc
