Hello,

I'm a new member just joining the forum.

I ride a Superhawk. It's a fun bike though kind of heavy, the stock suspension is awful unless you upgrade and the binders are weak. I like the motor and with -1 on the front gear and some Pilot Powers, it goes OK.

That said, recently I've been looking to move to something with more performance but w/o the riding position of the typical crotch rocket. So, how much of a performance difference is there between a 2007 or newer Tuono and one of the 1K sport bikes? I'm hoping it's fairly close as I've been eying a leftover T Factory.

Thanks for your time.

hi, i dont think i've been riding mine for long enough to help very much, what i do know is they're an awesome machine. if you haven't already, take one out on a test ride, i used to have an 08 z 750, took an 07 tuono for a test ride and fell in love.
they have plenty enough power, i've not ridden a vtr1000 (superhawk to you)
but the tuono is a sportsbike thats had the fairing removed, there are only a few subtle differences between the mille and tuono, besides from the bodywork.
i tend to prefer the 'conventional' riding positon too, i find sportsbikes take away a lot of vision, and are not so suited to the roads. track perhaps.
saying that, the tuono would be a lot of fun on the track too.
hope this helps.
regards
Reece

Thanks for the info. I don't so much mind riding with clip ons as much as I just don't see the sense to it most of the time. Tucked in at 150 and they make sense. All of my riding so far is on the street and most of it is below 130. I figure what's the point of clip ons if the bike is designed to handle well with more upright bars. I don't want to get a bike that's more suited to sport touring than sport.

I heart my Tuono. Serious sportbike with flat bars and no fairing. Unlike any other nekkid (until the streetfighter) the Tuono is the only non neutered naked version of a streetbike. Period. And the best part is, she is great on the track, on the street commuting, or on the hiway touring. 40K km frm new and loving it!!!

It depends what you want from the bike.
A Tuono is (IMHO) a really good FUN bike, it handles like a dream, is fairly fast, brakes & turns better than most bikes you will ride. It has a character that will put, what an American forum poster described as a "**** eating grin" all over your face.

In comparison a 1 litre Jap 4 will eat a Tuono in a straight line, on a smooth road. It will have turbine like continuous & smooth power, like a big electric motor. It will also be a bit bland, a touch ordinary. Somehow like chinese food, it will not quite satisfy your appetite.

On a normal road, with bumps, traffic, & plenty of bends a Tuono can show a clean pair of heels to a big I4, until of course you get to the straight.

I know which I love, and it isn't Japanese.

I had considered putting superbike bars on a new R1 as I like the motor (good torque and big high end rush). I'd want some kind of small fairing, just not the full boat. While I know it would be one hell of a machine I haven't come to grips with the new R1 looks. Superbike bars would likely make it look worse. Funny that people on the forum talk trash about the bikes looks. Sooo, I'm thinking the T Factory is likely it.

A dealer has an 07 T Factory with 2K miles. He seems firm on the $10K for the bike. stock pipes, etc. I'm a bit concerned about not having an Aprilia dealer nearby that I trust so I've been reading as many posts as I can find hoping not to step in it and end up buying a turd. I don't know anyone nearby who has one so this board seems to be the best way to get info.

Thanks for your all your input.

Any **** with a heavy throttle hand can go fast in a straight line. Ergo, the "**** eating grin" when I pass them on the inside or around the outside when we get into the twisties in the mountains. So remember... Straight line fast, puerile cuntish behaviour... Smoking an IL4 in the corners, a manly SKILLED pastime!

You'll keep up with any litre Nippon, straights (if you can hang on) and the twisty bits....no worries. The thing that sells this bike to me - OK apart from the gorgeous looks and sublime handling - is the stonkin engine. I've had a few ExUps then R1s and stumbled across twins when I rode my mates Duke....WTF....what HAD I been missing!! Now on my 4th twin and I'm NEVER going back, every time I start her up I grin like a Cheshire and the freekin hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Now, as a Ham Shank, please don't get a nice European twin mixed up with those tractor engines HD uses...they're different animals and should be approached as such.

For me it's a no-brainer, buy the Thunder dude....buy the Thunder.... :)

Something about that twin power delivery. Seems it becomes a more mature choice after one has dabbled with IL4s. Kinda like the majority of the lads here appreciating single malt. With age, comes maturity... in choices of motorcycles and scotch.

The VTR is probably the most fun bike I have ever owned (-1 on the front sprocket).
I have not ridden my T yet though because it is still in pieces.
I am hoping that the T will fill the gap of not having the VTR in the stable.
It should also be a bit more comfortable than my TL1000R.

Once she is on the road I will do a back to back comparison with my CBR1000RR & GSXR1000.

The -1 on the front was a cheap way (< $30)to get a bit better response off the bottom while giving a better match for 6th gear redline. It'll still pull to 150 but it's not in the same leage as one of the current 1K bikes.
