Hi everyone, newbie forum member and newbie Tuono owner here!

I have recently bought a new 2008 Factory (traded the gixer 1000 and absolutely no regrets) and am loving it. As normal procedure with a Tuono I have got some of the Aprilia branded Akrapovics, and just fitted them.

The question I have is, the instructions say to fit them with the bobbin looking aluminium washer between the frame mount and the carbon straps. When I did this it did not look right so I fitted them with the standard washer and nut and it now looks correct but very close to the swingarm when looking from above.

When I jump on the seat it still looks like it should clear, but obviously I can't compress the suspension enough without riding properly. Will the pipes hit the swingarm? Has anybody else fitted them like I have or have you all used the Ali bobbin spacer washer things?

Looking forward to any suggestion or answers from those in the know!

Happy riding all :thumbup

Hi Patrick,

Welcome to the forum. I swapped my GSXR 1000 for a new Tuono Factory recently too, never regretted it!

I also fitted the Aprilia / Akrapovic twin pipes. I had them fitted by the dealer but having just had a look at mine in the garage, I would say they have used the spacer washer you refer to. As a guide for you, I have measured the clearance from the swingarm on both sides at it's nearest point to the exhausts, and it measures 1.5 inches on both sides.

So any less than this and you risk bashing it I guess! However as the suspension will only move the bike up and down in the vertical plane, as long as you have clearence of say half an inch in the horizontal plane you should be ok. Not sure what you mean when you say it didn't look right?

I could post up some photographs of my mountings in close up if you would like? Let me know.
Hope this helps!
Rob

Hi and welcome.

New to the Tuono myself swapped over from a Blade and R1 and also no regrets loving it.

The factory is a nice bike but i could not justify the price tag.

Have fun and hope you get your issue resolved. Might be worth a visit to your local Aprilia Stealer and see what they reckon!

Cheers
Mark

Thanks Guys, I have given it a days worth of thought and after reading RBD's post (thanks for that and the offer of pics) have decided to put the bobbins in. I had not ridden the bike so did not get to find out if the cans would have hit or not, but didn't want to take the risk. After a bit more fitting and fiddling it doesn't look as bad as I first thought.
