Hi All,

Just joined up, Got a 51 plate mille (had it about 3 months now) found this site hoping to find some info on servicing as the bike is now stored away for the winter and thought I'd introduce myself...
I'm chris and as you'll have probably guessed by my user name I'm from Newcastle, Been riding bikes since i was 9 and I'm a complete petrol head!

I've had a few bikes in the past from a suzuki gt500 to a fzs1000 but this is my first v-twin and I've gotta say I love it.
Since I've bought it I've bought a few bits and pieces (corbin seat and braided hoses),got new tyres for it, new oil and filter, iridium plugs which i plan to fit tomorrow.

I was wanting some advice on changing the fork oil and you opinions on k&n air filters as I'm not sure wether to fit a stock one or go down the K&N Route.

Let me know what you think,

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

ey up geordie welcome matey, get a pic of yer bike up when you can bud. I'm using a K&N on mine but I couldn't tell if it makes any diff, the bike breathes pretty well with the standard so its personal choice really (I'd still be using a standard if I hadn't got it cheapo). If you've not changed the fork oil and the bikes got a fait few miles on it I's say get em stripped and sorted (well worth the effort imo (change it after each season is a good rule of thumb)

Hi Deacs,

Thanks for that, The bike's just clicked over 9k miles, It's probably never had the fork oil done, the suspension is hard, Has very little give when riding.

I was hoping to change the oil and adjust them to cure it but might have to strip them down.

Hey Matey, yeah I meant change the oil when I said stip em down, the oil is very hygroscopic so even if its not used much it still absorbs moisture and degrades the oil. I would drain the old stuff that'll smell like sick and then use some new oil (not much) and pump the fork to clean any crap out.
Have you played with the compression and rebound to see if it changes the suspension attitude?

Hi matey,

I've not had a chance to look at the settings yet, It just feels very firm on the front so think changing the oil and setting it up properly would sort it, Been reading the user manual on this and it seems straight forward....speaks too soon haha.

What forkoil would you recommend?

Hello, welcome to the forum Chris :thumbup
My 2p worth :pirate
Iv'e got the Showa forks and theyr'e easy to take apart and change the oil.
I put Putoline HPX 5 back in just cos its what the local bike shop sells and i wanted 5w oil. I weigh 11 stone and even with 5w oil I have the compression wound all the way out.
