I am coming from Jap Vtwins. Anything I should really check for and know about these bikes. It is an 04.
Thanks, Kyle.

Hi Kyle, good decision!! Do you know if it is the last of the old shape ( RSVR Mille ) or if it is the newer shape ( RSVR Factory ) ?

Not sure. It looks like this one

Main thing to check with the earlier facelift models is the genuine mileage - digital odometer had a tendency to reset to zero if the battery went flat or was disconnected.

Yours is the later one Kyle (mk2)

Looks nice in the piccie.

i've just come from Jap bikes, to an RSVr factory too.
As CrazyG says though, check the history to authenticate the mileage if possible.

check the swing arm recall has been done on the 04 model & the clocks were very prone on the first gen 2 models(04)
there are threads on here about swing arm recalls, i'm sure someone will put you right, Spoonz will prob know, he knows
everything, lol, & welcome

Is that a bad thing?:) How do you check it? Doesn't the ecu hold the mileage?

New to the RSV world & need help

Hi Guys

I recently fell in love with the RSV so sold my GSXR and now looking to buy one.

I've been looking at bikes between 2005 and 2008 models, all the dealers I've been into have been very helpful but Im still a but unsure about the different models.

I think I understand the difference between the RSVR and the Factory(suspension, wheels, carbon bits etc) but have seen bikes with silver and black frames some with black forks and some with gold (ohlins), some with black wheels and others with blue (Mag I think).
Also I've seen adverts that use the term MY06, not sure if this just means 2006 model.

If anyone can help make this a little clearer I would appreciate it.

This high spec bike of mine may well be for sale soon if any of you guys are interested in a well sorted bike

Price, no idea as i need to work out the kit cost that is on it.

If you need more pics let me know.

From what I understand, once the mileage has reset on the earlier models it's gone for good but the ECU holds details of the operating hours which should indicate what sort of life the bike has had. Of course, if someone tries to pass off a 25k bike for one with 2k on the clock you could end up paying over the odds. Assuming, the bike has a FSH it should be relatively easy to work out if the odometer has reset at some point.

The frames are either polished, powder-coated black or hard anodized gold as on the 2006-2008 Factory model. These are only aesthetic differences. I believe the black frame was used on some models between 2005 and 2006. In 2006, Aprilia started fitting the RSVR with the gold Ohlins forks as standard instead of the previous Sachs forks, but retained the Sachs rear shock. At the same time there were a few aesthetic updates to both RSVR and Factory models including the air intake, tail fairing, pieces either side of the saddle and some other minor tweaks to the fairing. More importantly, the power went up from a claimed 130 bhp at the crank to 143 bhp.

There have been tons of colour variations over the years but the blue wheels you have seen will probably be the OZ ones from the earlier ('03-'05) Factory model which were later coloured gold. If you find blue wheels on an RSVR then they have either been swapped from the Factory version, or resprayed. It's easy enough to get OZ Racing stickers from eBay but genuine OZ wheels should be embossed with "OZ" towards the hub.

@badger That bike is total **** - hope it goes to a good home

This would be the year of manufacture, rather than the year of registration. You may find that some bikes were not registered until a year or more after manufacture, so they're actually an older model than they might first appear.

BTW, if you have not already done so, you should definitely take an RSV for a test ride - you'll find that a twin feels a lot different to an inline 4 and some people don't like it :-#

So simple, now I know

I have only ever ridden inline 4 bikes and understand the power delivery is very different to the v twins. Getting a test ride is not the easiest thing to do. My plan was to find a bike that I would like to buy, and test ride that one. I have to be honest I enjoy the shopping. (makes a change from shoe shopping with the wife).

Thanks again.
