New here, couple questions.

Hey everyone. I'm new to Aprilia ownership. Just got a 07 RSVR Factory and have an issue with the rear brake not working. Have done a little research and I think it's probably a bleeding issue. Everything seems to be in order as far as the caliper and lines being intact, so other than bleeding the line and adjusting the cylinder is there anything else I should check out? Also it only has 1500 miles so what are the scheduled maintenance for these bike? Thanks guys.

quite a few posts on this site that should help you and explain what the problems are - but options seem to boil down to:

1. they dont work well (do you need it that much?!), because of the master cylinder location - just put up with it.

2. add a heat shield

3. bleed it according to the Aprilia procedure:

4. replace the master cylinder with something like a Fireblade's part.

5. buy a set of Aprilia Performance's rear sets that relocates the master cylinder behind the heel guard.

I would go with number 5, ....then leave the back brake alone!!!

I have used the link I posted to bleed my rear brake and it has worked perfect. They brake actually works to good and will lock up it I am not easy on it.

But many say the problem will come back, so relocating the MC seems to be the best fix.

The other option is to hang a 4 litre container of oil or similar from the brake pedal over night. This will cause any trapped air to be expelled through the rear brake resevoir. This method works a treat, just get into the habbit of doing it every 1000 miles or so

In the reading I've done it seems that this is caused by the MC being mounted horizontally as opposed to vertically so the air bubbles don't escape well. If I were to fabricate a new bracket to mount it would this possibly solve the problem? Also does anyone have the scheduled maintenance routine for up to 5000?

heat wrap the exhaust header under the rear m/s and the one under the rear shock which stops the shock boiling as the heat shield is an after thought and crap.also hang a heavy weight on the rear brake lever over night and it will improve .

So bled a whole bottle of brake fluid through the system... still no rear brake any ideas?

Are you removing the rear caliper from the motorcycle? The bleeder must be at the top. My 2007 came with a small aluminum heat shield. Does yours have it?

My rear brake has been flawless, am now at 10,000mi.

mate this something we are all affected by ,it wont matter what you do forget it and save for a set of rearsets from griff [fusebox] this relocates the master cylinder away from the heat and they look feckin sexy too !!! BACK BRAKES ARE FOR MOT'S ONLY LOL
