New Guy, RSV Lust, Compare to SV1000S

Greetings from Soggy Seattle, USA

I've been on an off bikes for nearly 30 years. First bike was a 1980 CB750F (Honda). Presently I own a 2006 FJR1300, 2005 Suzuki SV1000S, and a 2004 Kawasaki ZR-7S. Kind of a weird lot, but there you have it.

I've looked at Aprilias off and on for the past few years. This time of year is especially difficult in that regard because they seem to just give them away. Local dealer has 2007 RSV1000Rs with no miles listed at $10,999. Given the general state of things, I'm sure the ride away could be kept to that number or below.

So here's the question. Anyone out there have direct experience with the SV1000S? Mine is all farkled up (Leo Vince, PCIII, BMC, Elka rear, Race Tech front, factory lowers, etc., etc.) so it's a pretty sweet bike. But it's no RSV. So my question relates mostly to the differences in riding the two bikes. I'm going to go ride one and make my own opinion, but that's not the same as someone who's owned both.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts. I'll keep lurking and perhaps join you in priller madness sometime soon.

Cheers

Hi and welcome.

Well, it's like comparing chalk and cheese really. The SV is a cheapish sporty v twin whereas the RSVR 1000 is a pure sports bike built using much higher quality components to produce one of the best sports bikes ever designed.

Njoy the test ride :thumbup

Welcome camera btw :thumbup

Yeah, I was afraid you were going to say something like that! Gonna see about a late model used ride as well. More later.

Welcome fella,you can't buy that jap ****,rsv's are ssssswwwwweeeeettttt..:thumbup:thumbup

SV is more of a sports tourer and quite 'flatly' tuned...compared to the old TL and TLS.....As suggested above I think you'll find the 'Prilia more sports orientated...remember though that they come out of the factory at Noale needing to have the sprockets changed (loads of threads on here about re-gearing) to get the full effect of that Rotax lump!!

Greetings camera56 :thumbup, once yourv'e ridden the rsv it will speak for itself. I was tempted to go for the sv 2 years ago but glad i never , owning and riding the RSV has been one wonderfull experience and beats the competition hands down :hail

Good luck :thumbup

You guys are great. Thanks for all the good words. Friendliest forum I've ever seen.

Dont think the sv or svs caught on much over here, you see them all over the place going cheap or discounted from new at dealers. Sounds like you got yours sorted out with the mods an all but only one way your going to know if the RSV's cutting the mustard is to ride it :doug.

Most of us here were gobsmacked at our first ride on the aprilia and they still bring a big grin to us every time we take them out and thats just wheeling it out the shed before we ride :doug.

Have a go but dont be supprised if you get arrested for grinning too much :smilie:laugh

welcome to the board 56 :cheers i came from a TLR so I sort of know what you mean. The Aprilia is going to have more power, weight less, and have a better fit and finish. You'll dream even sexier dreams in your sleep about motorcycling, and curse louder when you want parts.

but of course you'll have the nearly 600 members on this forum as your support group. :laugh

I agree with all of the above ! :)
You may THINK you have a great bike (I had a Cagiva Raptor for 3 years and thought that was "it" for me), but you will be absolutely gob-smacked when have a go with an RSV.
I rode my bf's RSV '01 for the first time, and refused to give it back :laugh I held on to it all weekend, did loads of miles on it and put my Raptor up for sale two days later.
Not a month went by and I got myself a gorgeous black '00 RSVR..
Now it's my bf's turn to be jealous :laugh

So.. Welcome aboard!! :cheers

The first time you ride an RSV your anus will be clamped very tightly shut. But gradually, as you ride it more, your buttocks will relax their grip untill after several rides your bottom will be in Vee Twin heaven. Its true mate. This bike is awesome. :burnout

You haven't mentioned how tall you are. I'm 6'4" and the Aprilia fit me quite well. :thumbup Ducati's were out of the question with the foot peg location so high.
Just sitting on the Aprilia is a very small part of the equation. As the others have suggested, THE RIDE IS THE PROOF! The test drive will blow you away!:biggrin
Lot's of quality parts are on these from the gitgo.
Welcome to the forum.

I owne da SV650 for my first bike, I bought a TLS as the SV did not feel like a proper bike. I owned varoius TL's for the following 4 years, I would imagine power wise the SV1000 would not be that far down to the TL but made on a budget. I sold the TL for an R1 but hated the power delivery, I then went back to a twin (Factory RSV) and the power delivery is great, power wise not sure you will notice a great deal more power, it should rev higher though. But the handling and build quality should be a million miles away from your SV.
Ride it and judge for yourself.
welcome to the site
