Hey folks.

Now then I've bought myself and old '99 RSV, it just seemed allot of bike for the money compared to Jap stuff. £1700 notes for a bike with full history and 18k on the clock (soon to be a lot more!) I think if you look hard you can get one cheaper too which is madness. First two days 200 miles and I bloody love it, my last bike was making 140bhp at the back wheel and was no fun below a ton, the mille so far is a joy all the time! It seems I have a better chance of keeping my life and licence on it!!!

What should I look out for, are there any areas mechanically or otherwise I should be aware of?

dan :)

Do a search:

Battery + starter/sprag clutch. Tip top battery otherwise big bills.
Starter solenoid can go sometimes, replace with a Yamaha one.

Otherwise, pretty bulletproof - might also be worth checking the top shock eye mount, on my 99 it had cracked almost all the way through.

Check mods like airbox, sprocket size, clutch slave cylinder, etc...

Enjoy and welcome :)

Welcome to the club mate!:thumbup I'm pretty new to it myself - 2 weeks in fact!

I'm the opposite to you though - I've gone from a 99 ZX6R with about 75-80bhp at the rear to my 03 RSV and I'm thinking '*****... I'm going to loose my licence with this thing!':eek:mg Bloody good fun though!:thumbup

Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you? There's talk of a Yorkshire ride out at some point.

Hey up Jay,

I seem to remember you!!! Were'nt you a member on Hull & Yorkshire bikers site? You had a green ZX6R if I remember rightly. I had a ZX10R but have bought back my old 2004 black Factory from MKS n Hull. Do you like the V twin thing then?????????? :thumbup

:biggrin i with these things its the other way round, plenty of clanging and banging and ticking and tapping means its sound, only joking:biggrin:thumbup

Welcome mate - proper starting procedure is a must - flick the fast idle on and don't touch that throttle!

Alright Rich. Yes that's me! Still go on there now & again. Loving the V twin thing! Took a bit of getting used to but think I'm there now - although still a lot to learn on it.

We def need to get a Yorkshire ride out sorted - there's plenty of s to do it!:biggrin

Hi Jay,I'm in York and always up for a ride out.

Thanks for all the advice, particularly with starting it i wouldn't have known that. Found out there is a aprilia specialist in Murton near York today (the chap did all the aprilia at greenside) he had a quick look over the bike for me and said it all seemed fine that it had been de-restricted and that it "should have the chip on it that came with the aprilia race can that's on it." Hurrah I guess.. ASLmotorcycles 01904 488898 the guys name is Al and he didn't charge me for the half hour he spent checking my bike over so mine will be going there.

thanks folks

dan

biggest top tip is always keep it on a battery trickle charger like an optimate. the starter tales a lot of oomph to start it and if your battery is not in tip tiop state then it may not start. i forgot once and 4 days later it wouldn;t start. but i did have an alarm though.
