Hello all!
Proud (relatively) new owner/operator of a 2012 Tuono V4 aPRC. My bike was a demo in the New York City area, loaned by the Piaggio organization to motor press reviewers/road testers and the like. As such, it had about 3000 miles on it when I took delivery. Hopefully it was broken in correctly, used, not abused. I think this may be my bike here: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/28/automobiles/autoreviews/italians-dressed-for-track-and-city.html
I bought it from my local dealer in mid winter, and (for the pricing in effect at time of purchase) believe I got a very fair deal.
Especially considering that the bike is fitted with an Akrapoviic can, and the engine is appropriately mapped (race tuned).
I've been riding for 50 odd years (some more odd than others, lol), starting at age 19 (you do the math :lol My first bike was a Honda 305 Superhawk, the oriiginal hi revvin road hotttie!)
Over the years, I've owned Triumphs ('66 T100 scrambler) a '65 BSA 441 Victor (aka "Victim". lol). a 70's Triumph 750 Trident, a Yamaha 650 Special (80's), a 90's Kawasaki KLR 250 (bulletproof, and handed down to one of my sons, still going), and lately a "new" Triumph Bonnevile (20k miles, still not leaking oil!, wtf?)
I must say however, imho THIS bike is "beyond category" if I can use that bicycle roadrace term. It is truly amazing! I got on it even before the last of the snow was gone this spring, and I can't seem to stay OFF the bike! After a few months it STILL surprises, no, SHOCKS me each time I ride. I don't think I'll ever learn the full capability of this bike if I happen to live another 70 years! I live near the New England thruway, and let's say there are areas/times of day when it's possible to let it fly. I've never experienced anything like it! And the brakes! First time I rode the "T" I nearly collected a Subaru up the Akrapovic at a stoplight! I never had a bike that could STOP like this one! And, it handles like a carbon fiber bicycle...can't think of any other analogy..it's just so TIGHT!
Did I mention the sound this beast makes? Every time I press that little button, I feel like "The Doctor" even though in reality I'm more at the hospital orderly level (or lower).
Just found this site, I'm looking forward to reading other's experiences here. So far the bike has been rock solid on mechanicals and all details. Yes it's not comfy on long runs and ya the seat is slippery (my wife can't get used to it). But small price to pay for the, in my opinion. nearly transcendent experience this bike delivers every second I'm aboard!
The only prob is there may be a leak in the fuel tank, as that little gas pump on the panel keeps lighting up! I'm searching the site here to see how far others are going on a gallon of Shell V power? Also curious what brand/grade fuel others are using..appreciate any feedback!
cheers!
