Okay so I need a new chain and sprockets, going for a 16/44 combo with a 106 link 525 chain.....but where do you folks buy them from ?.

I am not looking to buy JT sprockets with some cheap as chips IRIS chain , so looking for decent/reputable makes.

BandC Express come to mind but are there other alternatives ?

mate for 16/44 gearing you should have at least the 108 linkchain, I normally use a 110 link with 16/44 but due to an ordering mistake I got the 108, which does fit--but talk about a short wheelbase now.more like a buell!!
Not sure who to recommendto buy from but I would google AFAM, Renthal and Tsubaki and see who comes out tops.

Don't you mean 108

106 is standard length for a post 04 bike with 16/40 gearing don't think you will get it on a 44 easily

i use a renthal front, supersprox rear & did x chain all from rsvr.net

I was under the impression 16/44 gearing on the earlier pre 03.5 bikes needed a 110 link chain. Certainly on my 02 R, the standard 108 link chain had not stretched enough to fit 16/44 sprockets when i changed. The adjusters were all the way forward yet there was not enough length in the 108 link chain to fit hence the need for the longer 110 link chain. CK managed to fit a 108 link with 16/44 sprockets though. Would there be any difference in chain length between manufacturers? Surely the length would be identical due to the correct 525 pitch required

Kiwi let us know how you get on

Legs, thats what i always thought from reading on here, but having just had a new chain and 16/44 sprockets fitted it was a 108 link chain they put on :dunno

Sprocker, how are you njoying the 16/44 sprocket set up? Makes a world of difference don't you think? Kind of brings the bike alive :thumbup

yup, I was surprised that 108 and 16/44 would fit, but it did this time, it was a renthal chain BTW.(and talon sprox) Nice short wheel base now! yeehaw

i needed 110 links with RK Gold for 16/44 on 02 mod.
certainly tried for shortie 108, but no go..coz running 520

how you getting on with the 520 matey?, some say go fer it and some say (with my high mileages and all weathers it would be a mistake). Interested to see in the future how long it lasts.
I have had to stop using race scrubs cos the 190/55's were being nicely chamferred by my 525 chain, plus I have used 520 before and liked the quicker spin up

Mate, I agree with CK. I've fitted 16/44 with a 108 and it was a struggle to squeez it in. The adjusters are wound right in. Seen a Mille with a 110 fitted and it's clearly a longer wheelbase. Looks like there's about 2'' in it, although I might be exagerating!!!!!!!!!!!!!:biggrin
