New Bike Night at Thruxton

A

A303

A couple of blokes with bike-related businsses on Thruxton Circuit are starting a monthly bike night at the track. Well, not actually on the track but in the infield area.
They're promising loads of attractions - slow-riding competition (on the riding school's bikes) with prizes, refreshments, suspension set-ups for a tenner, free safety checks, guided ride-outs and other exhibitors including Hants Plod.
Percentage of the proceeds go to the Hants Air Ambulance.
One of the blokes (Ricky Ross) has opened a new used bike business up at Thruxton and also does mobile mechanics. He's an Italian freak, had a Mille and other stuff. Used to work for the Benelli importers and says he helped develop the latest models in Italy, so should know what he's doing (although when he tried to tap me up to do a service on mine I had to tell him there's only one Italian specialist in this country that touches my Mile and he's in Tamworth!:thumbup).
The meet's going to be monthly on the first Wednesday of the month from 5pm, starting in April (April 7th by my calendar) at Thruxton, which is just off the A303 between Andover and Amesbury. Head into the circuit itself and take the tunnel under the track, then turn right - 'spect it'll be well signposted.
Could be a laugh - no beer but loads of space to park up and hang out. I'll be there for the first one, at least.
Zone ride-out anyone?

That sounds good mate, not sure if me and my pals can make it (thruxton is about 100 miles!) but you never know... good excuse to whip up the road of your namesake, not done that one in ages!

What I'd like is for someone to organise a trackday/evening at Thrux, just about the nearest circuit to here along with Castle Combe. To be honest its a bit of a trek for a bike night, might do it - do you ever get down to the 303 to Hunter's Lodge?

The 303 itself is a bit straight for my liking - no offence lol - but there are some decent roads South of Hunters, zigzag hill to the Blandford/Dorchester junction is a nice one.........

...Hell yeah, remember doing zigzag for the first time, never even heard of it... almost caught me out, what a piece of road! :biggrin

Not suggesting that it'll be worth a 200-mile round trip! But might be a laugh for locals.
Don't know the Hunters Lodge meet - got any details? Always up for a bit of a ride-out when this icy weather goes.
I went up Zig-Zag Hill last night as it happens - er, in my Volvo with the family on board. Let the kids have a bit of a run on the ridge walks there. Reckon Zig-Zag itself is a bit a pain on a Mille - too tight - but the road that comes over from Sixpenny Handly has some nice sections.
That A354-A350-A30 Salisbury-Blandford-Shaftsbury-Salisbury is one of my fav burn routes.
As for a bike track day at Thruxton - forget it. The local villagers:jack have long had the track owner tied down to minimum days for any sort of actvity due to noise. I did ride it once on my CD175 when I was a nipper - and had to do a runner from a pursuing Landrover with a bit of off-road through the industrial estate to escape!

yep I go up that way regularly, some good roads. Zigzag itself is interesting but the section between there and the 354 is top stuff.........

Irony is that Castle Coombe is also at the mercy of a new housing estate. Sadly though they have the upperhand, CC has the reputation of the toughest noise regs in the country..........baffles in for sure. Fun track though with a few track days.

Simon, I'll be up for this - it's a nice blast from Swindon on a sunny summer eve...
Slow-riding competition? A certain forum member would win that hands-down:nana and its not you...from what I hear you're MotoGP quick...
Cheers
Mike.

Hey Mike, where've you been? Me quick? You're thinking about the wrong bloke - I did get into top gear once but quickly came down to second as it was a bit too scary up there!
Be good to meet up at Thruxton or maybe before.
Have you been to this Hunters Lodge meet?

IM IN SARGE:thumbup WELL TILL i FECK OFF TO THE HOT SANDY PLACE ...shoutin again dammitt lol

I've been mainly mountain biking over the last few months - the Aprilia's have been covered up and on battery tenders - I'm missing them :inlove
I'm sure one of them needs it's sprag sorting and a fork oil change so I'll get the spanners out when it starts to warm up.
No I haven't been to the Hunters Lodge meet wot's that then:dunno
Planning an epic euro MotoGP trip this summer - can't decide which one (or two) to go to - Italy or Spain?? (FECK OFF TO THE HOT SANDY PLACE!!)
Cheers
Mike.

Jesus, I seem to be the only person I know who thinks the cause against the Taliban is right – what they stand for is completely wrong. I’m not a particularly violent person but when is comes down to it their doctrine has to be put down – I’m sure 99% of Muslims are fine. What I’m trying to say here is that I’m backing you on this one Butch. Not sure if you need my vote of confidence but you’ve got it…
Anyway, if you need someone to carefully look after your RSV (thrash the f**k out of it) for 6 months give me a call:pirate

Couldn't see any Aprilia's in the picture - just clone machines:eek:
Let's show them what real machine's looks like one night then...
That is providing we don't get any tech issues on the way and have to turn (or get towed) back :smilie

Er, yeah, like the last time we met up at a bike night!
