New bike!!!......but a couple of things to sort out

Hi,

I picked up a mint 03 Tuono at the weekend. After nearly two years of torture commuting into central London on an 02 RSV mille I gave up and sold it. I tried a Speed Triple and Street triple but realised there was nothing to beat the twin - so I picked up a great Tuono and love it! It only had 5000 miles on and is like new.
I've been reading a lot about the de-restriction process and have a Leo vince can from the RSV which has gone on, I removed the air box restriction and cut the wire on the ecu (bottom left blue/green one on the smaller connecter)
Unfortunately, while the bike is making an amazing sound, it is now really rough below 3500 rpm and very on/off with the fuel delivery. Fun, yes! filtering through traffic - not so much.
The RSV was de-restricted by the garage when I got it - the previous owner had fitted some box of tricks in the back that I can't remember the name of (it wasn't a power commander) and it was pretty smooth, even more so with the Oberon clutch I fitted (find neutral is a pain in the arse on this new bike!!!!)

So, my worry is the bike is running lean - the operating temps seem normal, but I don't want to do any damage. Is there a way to smooth out the fueling without going the power commander/new chip route? Would be nice to have the option of wheeling off the traffic lights rather than have it set as default!

Cheers in advance

Tim

Greetings Timmy, welcome to the zone.
I cant answer your question, but the regulars on here like a bit of an intro about yourself before diving in with a problem.

I am sure someone will be able to help, but expect a bit of abuse. Dont take it to heart though.

I personally would reverse your mod process a step at a time to detect the cause of the issue.

Wise answer there Olaf.....................,

A lot is said about cutting "THE" wire etc . Personaly I would speak to Charley Tuono or Griff ?.

I believe the "T" is a bit lumpy around 3000 revs but you will learn to live with it as out on the open road it is in it`s element.
I think other guys have dropped a tooth at the front to help sort this ?

Thanks for the answers guys, I'll look into dropping a tooth - fair point on the intro. I'll do one now.

Alright Timmy - I also have an 03 which has 1 down front, 2 up rear. Even with that done you find you have to slip the clutch around town etc. if you find yourself below 2.5k-3k, they don't like it that low!

Hi STiX, thanks for the info - I think as soon as I can get some funds in I'll do the same as you.
I'm not sure the current running problems are entirely down to the gearing. Riding home tonight it was getting worse - even in neutral at the lights the engine kept wanting to stall - it wouldn't run cleanly until over about 4500 rpm and was struggling to get there.....I'm hoping I haven't done something stupid and cut the wrong wire.
I wonder if the throttle body synchronisation needs doing? Did any one else experience something similar?
On a side note - the guy I sold the RSV to works with me, we swapped cans as he wanted the blue flame I got with the bike. The leo Vince was a fair bit louder on the Tuono - I'm clutching at straws here, but should there be any difference?

The only thing I can compare it to is when the garage left a spark plug loose - before it flew out of the engine block I was experiencing simliar running on the RSV.......not sure if I should just leave the bike at home tomorrow to avoid any damage.

Awricht timmy, my Tuoldo was lumpy at 3000 revs, kept having to change up and doon the gears in toon. Total pain the arse it was, dropped to a 16 tooth front sprocket and it a lot better. i put a Giannelli can oan mine and it runs better with the added bonus of sounding :drool

That doesn't sound right about the stalling at lights - mine is spot on although a little lumpy being a big twin.

Bay had problems with his recently after being serviced (he has a 53 Racing) and I can't remember exactly what was wrong now (help Bay!!) but his cylinders were out of balance I think. Made it run poorly although I'm pretty sure it idled ok just popped and banged a lot more than normal.

Oh and finding neutral can be a ***** sometimes. Easier to caress it into neutral from 2nd down when coming to a halt sometimes.

Cheers guys - I think I see if I can drop it in to a garage on the way into work. There's a place in Kilburn I used with the RSV who are good with Ape's (although they were the ones who didn't tighten the spark plugs!) I should think I've screwed up the fuelling so hopefully they will be able to get it back on track - I can't handle the train!!!!

Thanks for all the help, its much appreciated
